By its very nature, news is something that is rare, and uncommon. Once it becomes commonplace, no one cares about it. It stops getting ratings, and the news shows stop reporting it. Tesla is getting the focus now because he cars are getting more mainstream, and Elon Musk and Tesla are forefront in people's minds. No one gives a crap about teens driving drunk and getting killed, because it's all too common. Far more kids get killed driving drunk than driving Teslas, it just doesn't make the headlines.

Go read (or watch) the story about Tucker, in that case, it was the "big three" that didn't want to have Tucker in the game, because his car was so much better then theirs, and he was a real threat to them, so they "ran him out" of the market. Maybe it is the same deal, they got a step behind, and just catching up now, so perhaps they are the ones running him out "of the game" he didn't play by the rules, and was really mouthy about it.

This story is all over the news and I just don't understand why. There is no "news" about it.

A car moving at a high velocity struck an immovable object and its occupants were killed. It happens all day, every day. The fact that the car didn't have an internal combustion engine doesn't change the unfortunate outcome or the physics involved.

Some of you old timers may be able to verify… Didn't the news media hype wrecks involving the first SUVs? Seems like the media tried to paint SUVs as being dangerous because of the extra heft they had over cars at that time. Too much mass in impacts…..

Like I told the guy at work as to why I want my wife driving a big SUV, "6100 pounds of protection". It is new enough it has all the airbags too. Some person not paying attention in a little car that hits her will 'probably' not hurt her. I drive (I drive much more than she does) the little 'good milage' car and motorcycles to make up for it.

Most vehicle have had issues or at least detractors. The old Willis Jeep and the newer ones with narrow tires might roll when going around a corner too fast or sharp. Military had special training for that. Gas tanks behind the drivers seat on older trucks. Pintos blowing up. Tires blowing up. Safety belts are probably the best safety feature that is "new". Remember, cars have been around since the late 1800's. Speed kills, which is why they are installing air bags, to slow you down at the same rate the car is stopping. Remember "suicide doors"? They were called that for a reason. Biggest issue I see now are cell phones distracting the driver. They have a hard time staying in their lane and rarely use turn signals. Is autonomous the answer? My opinion: Not until there is a complete system in place where every vehicle is connected and a central computer is in control. Monitoring of pedestrians might also be needed. Not only is it going to be complicated, it will be expensive. Who is going to pay for it? Younger peoples income or older peoples social security?
