Why are people still skeptical?

My recollection is that Paul first announced production would commence in 2012...than production was moved to 2014...than 2015...delayed till 2016...changed to 2017...now 2019...

Cautious optimism is probably the best policy based on Elio’s track record of announcing production dates...

But thats the thing that is different now. He's not giving estimated dates, and he's not saying pending funding. I think he has most of the funding in hand, and has had it for a while now.

I've been looking into the past statements since I haven't been following for long. Not that long ago, part of what they needed for production was 80+ million to finish the design. Now, listening to the Lars interview yesterday, Paul says the design is done, finished. So that's 80 some million he must have gotten quietly, and money no longer part of the 300+ million they originally needed.

The question is: Does "design is done" cover everything, or just the body? Is the engineering done on the motor? I think not. There is still lots of work that needs to be done before production.

He didn't say it was almost done, or partially done, he said it was done, ready to go. Did you listen to the interview? The host himself was talking about how he had driven it. Sounds like it's a finished design to me. Motor, body, everything... I'd have to doubt Paul would just make things up like that?

I have lots of designs that are done. It’s that they are not finalized. Big difference. If you look at the Black Elio, it’s not close to being done. All of the CAD screenshots that Elio posts shows that the design is done but as for the actual parts made and being tested, I have not seen any of that at all. As with typical engineers, we love to claim the design is done because we are so smart. Then we get the reality when we need to do Rev A or B. Elio admitted they never stamped out a steel body. So design done but production ready, not the case.

It's been awhile, but why would the "&" be crash tested.?? Once upon a time EM posted a 5 star crash rating, but that has long gone by the boards.
What are the standards for testing a autocycle?
Its in the wording. I believe the wording used was "engineered be have a 5 star crash rating." That was through computer generated simulations and not real world testing. but those simulations are pretty accurate.

I just carefully listened to the interview two more times...

Paul never says he has the funding in hand...

He talks about the possibilities of an STO (ElioCoin)... and that crypto currency’s might offer a funding solution...

Any STO offering will need to be approved by the SEC...this could be a long process...and even if approved... they have to find investors to buy the STO’s to obtain the hundreds of millions necessary finish this project...

The Host, Lars Larson, drove the orange one, If I remember correctly. That was quite a few years ago. I mean, he's got a SIL of less than 2,000 which he got after riding in the Elio.

I’ve been thinking about the 5 star crash rating, like what are the parameters and how is it calculated. While the tests to some extent are described, how scoring occurs us not provided (website above). Secondly, the standard has changed as technology has evolved, so it’s a moving target. When Elio references the 5 star rating, is that 5 stars today or 5 stars back in 2010 (or some prior design year)? Some of the tests listed might not be relevant, since seating is not side-by-side or probably not applicable (a crash with a similar sized vehicle - how are two Elios or crash into each other? - a crash with an SUV is a more likely scenario). What do people think 5 stars will mean for us?
