So johnsnownw, you think Tesla has absolutely no issues with their AP and that is all the fault of the highway crews?
Or, maybe the operator, but Tesla is in no way responsible at all?

I guess when that Tesla in Florida drove straight into the side of a semi truck it was bad lane markings as well?
Oh right, that was totally the operators fault too.

Your bottom line then is that anybody who uses the Tesla AP and is in a accident, it is either the highway department or the operators fault?

Sounds to me like it is the fault of the operator for using the Tesla AP in the first place.

AP appears to be working as intended. It follows the lines on the road that are there, it doesn't make up its own. AP is certainly not a perfect system, none of the systems out are...they all rely on a human monitor.

The one in FL was caused by the truck driver pulling out in front of the vehicle, and the Tesla driver not paying attention. The NTSB findings were that AP worked as designed.

It's the fault of the operator for not using AP as intended, full stop. No one blames the vehicle manufacturer for allowing people to travel faster than the posted speed limit. AP is a driving aid, not a chauffeur.

Agree. Now, what happens when we have Full Auto Pilot? I hear GM is wanting to build a Bolt without even a steering wheel.

FSD (Full Self Driving) is still pretty far off for Tesla. GM and Waymo utilize more advanced systems that make the vehicle prohibitively expensive for the general public. Waymo may be getting pretty close to meeting some regulatory milestones, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them expand outside of the very limited area they currently operate. GM will have a ways to go, despite their goal of putting vehicles in the hands of the public by next year.

I don't believe they've worked out accountability for these driverless vehicles just yet.

Going to be a while before we have millions of self-driving vehicles tooling around.

You can't fire me, I quit! This is what Musk is basically saying about the investigation and the NTSB.
However, read this letter sent from the NTSB to Musk:

https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations...eslaPartyRemovalNotificationLetter-041218.pdf

Musk believes the NTSB is just an advisory group and is irrelevant to his vision of safety. To him, Tesla will determine the safety of his products and ignore what the government agencies require. I wonder what will happen once California has proof of Tesla's testing of autonomous vehicles in their state without their consent or following their laws about such matters.

To extrapolate Musks thinking, in the future there will be no need for the NTSB as all vehicles will be Teslas and will be inherently safe.
As they will all be following the speed limits, the police radar use can also be eliminated. No pollution = no EPA. Etc. Etc.
I wonder what other government agencies can be eliminated in Musks future utopia?

What he's stating is correct. Tesla owners should be made aware of the limitations of the technology that they have in their vehicles, especially if it's a safety concern. He's also correct about the NTSB...as it pertains to their role.

Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Medical Insurance and Social Security will be things of the past in Elon's vision. He believes (along with a number of prominent scientists including the late Stephen Hawking) that since tech will eliminate most jobs, all people will be given a standard base amount of personal resources and free health care to sustain them in a fairly comfortable manor. Any extra that they would like to enjoy would be dependent on their voluntary contribution to society. Elon and Hawking are/were very afraid of AI. They believe(d) that Skynet is more than just a possibility if we continue on our present course. I understand Einstein didn't like the idea of AI very much either.
