If the big car companies that rule the world of car manufacturing felt threatened enough, maybe they could just buy off the key people to keep the Elio from being built and/or being low priced and also reliable.

Thoughts?

I have to admit, it is a concern of mine as well. Them and "big oil". Too much money influence in politics to not have at least a small concern.

Paul Elio is a driven man and I don't think he will abandon his dream. Ego's and dreams are hard to overcome and I truly feel his dream of the Elio far outweighs a buyout potential. I still believe he is a man of principle, an engineer, and a dreamer. It doesn't seem he has ever been driven by the all mighty dollar and he is not willing to give up his dreams.

The more Elio's strategy is revealed the more we can see of the
thought process. I'm certain Paul anticipated the various potential
issues posited here on the Forum way back in 2008 when he first
decided to take the plunge to change the transportation paradigm.
He has also learned & benefited by the various start-ups that have come
before him. The financial model is brilliant (fingers crossed it all comes together).
The design/tech/sales/marketing/distribution functions are,again, well thought-out.
Step-by-step Elio is marching toward production. It's a great time to be in on the
beginning of the Ride!

I agree with most of this, but have to point out that dreamer is inaccurate. Dreamers never do anything more than think about what it would be like to succeed. Visionaries on the other hand make dreams come true. Paul Elio is a VISIONARY. Paul Elio is definitely a man of principle and driven to bring his vision into mass existence. He will not measure success with money, he will measure it by meaningful accomplishment of his vision. Subsequently, money will follow. Simply put, Paul is captivated by his "WHY" and no amount of "WHAT's" will derail that.

Concur with your point about Dreamer vs Visionary.

JMHO but I don't thing Elio is on the minds of big car companies yet. They may be keeping an eye on the Elio to see how it does. If Elio takes root and starts eating into profits of Big Car Companies then I think they would then take a look at building a 3 wheeler. Don't think there is enough profit in a low priced 3 wheelers to pay Union wages and keep Union pensions funded. Big Car Companies will have to hope to sell a lot of 20, 30, and 40K cars to support the lifestyle they have created.

I don't see Elio selling out - the idea is too big at this point. I am also sure the car manufacturers are paying more attention than you think as the deposits are starting to mount. When you look at some of the EVs - the numbers for Elio are slaughtering them...
My biggest fear: I am hoping mainstream automakers do not lobby politicians to come up with some regulatory reason to kill the concept. Once there are 100K Elios on the road the cow will have left the barn and there will be no stopping it. The next 6 months really is the danger period for them to strangle it in the crib. (I sound like a walking cliche machine the morning :D) At what point is a car certified as safe enough to drive? What is the process? Do they submit a prototype to regulators? If the car will truely be safe it would behoove them to get prototypes to the car mags. I would guess this will happen in the fall.

I don't know the answer to this question, so I'll toss it out and see if others know: Are motorcycles (remember, Elio is a motorcycle) subject to any safety regulations and required crash tests, etc.? I realize Elio Motors will voluntarily be safety testing, but I don't know if gov't requires it for 'cycles. I don't see how new regs could be passed solely for Elio, without requiring those regs across the board for all motorcycles.
