www.fueleconomy.gov reports that the Honda Insight still mops the floor against any other current make or model - 60mph city/66mph highway for manual transaxle.
Technically the VW XL1 is in production now and every one slated for production is already sold from what I've seen. It's MPG figures are all over the map but all I've seen are 100mpg+.

My 14 year old Toyota Echo still gets around 40mpg +/- 2 depending on conditions. (and I usually don't drive to optimize mileage)
So 80-84 will be a nice halving of my monthly fuel expense at 67 miles per day commuting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 84 mpg is for travel @ HWY speeds. City & slower
driving is @ 45 mpg so combined 84/45 = 64.5. Still not bad.................... :)

Right. the 84 is for highway, not combined.

Personally, my commute is 79% highway, 4% city. The remaining 17% is 45 mpH country road where I will likely exceed the highway estimates. So I hope to still end up somewhere around the 80+ average. :D

What amazes me is the people here saying, "EM just needs to compromise on the mpg goal, or the price goal, or the new engine.....IMO these are the same ones who would be screaming, IF EM DID COMPROMISE! You would call him "dishonest", a "liar", head of a "ponzi scheme".......Oh, wait....some of you have already said these things!
When I read about EM's determination to build the BEST vehicle possible, for our money...will not allow anyone to put more "down" than $1k per reservation....I am impressed! I am comfortable investing in this concept!

If you are not happy, or comfortable with what is PLANNED and "IN THE WORKS", please start your own company!

And you would be wrong.

While I've come to the conclusion that Elio will fail spectacularly, I do not believe him to be a con man. Rather, just a man who let idealism interfere with pragmaticism thereby increasing his development costs which in turn cut into his capital funds...blah blah blah.
