It actually works quite well. My 20 yo son bought a 93 accord "fixer upper" last year with 457000 miles on it. Many things were worn out but the camshaft bosses and caps in the head were still within limits. After all replaceable bearing shells (cam, connecting rod, main bearing) are steel shells coated with ALUMINUM. The only down side is if the engine is ever run without oil it ruins the head.
So you're telling me that the forged steel cam rotates directly against the cast aluminum block and head?

I'm finding this hard to believe.

Wow, a car with 457k miles?
How much did they pay your son to take it away, LOL
I would think a 457k mile car would have zero residual value at that point.
"all the good done been got", LOL

Not if they are built right and maintained properly, I had an 1984 BMW 325e with 532k that ran like a top until some lady wasn't paying attention, ran a stop sign, and T-boned me.

It was broad daylight and she tried to tell the officer that she didn't see me. He immediately asked if she was color blind? LOL

My car was as pictured below. A color BMW refers to as "Hennarot". It's like a cross between the color of a stop sign and a road cone.

Sorry to hear about the t-bone. I used to drive an E30 M3. Same color (factory order, European delivery program). One if the best cars to drive. Ever. Period.

Yes but if you just need a ride to work it really doesn't matter. I helped him get it up and running for about $60 in parts after the $600 purchase price. The bright side is it won't deprecate any more.

Thats true. I bought one of them used world famous GM diesel powered Olds Delta 88's. It ran, smoked, rattled, blew head gaskets, leaked oil, but got me where i needed to go.
Gotta do what you gotta do until you get to the point you can do what you want to do.
