I would guess a standard car battery, more electrical demand than a motorcycle. Heavy duty starter, alternator, heater/AC blower motor, 500watt stereo with 15 inch subs (just kidding), GOD ony knows what other accessories that will be available from electronic companies by the time of ELIO production.

You can see the nice square battery shape clearly in this crash simulation. As this is an automotive style engine and electrical system it will have a standard automotive battery.

the brown box shown over the front left shock ?

thanks for confirming the use of an automotive battery

Rumor: I heard the Elio would use a 9v battery from transistor radio, and the driver would hold in their teeth. With the added benefit of being able to lick the terminals occasionally to keep drivers awake. Making Elio the lightest weight car with the lowest frequency of falling asleep while driving.

Smoother riding, bigger cars with battery located far away from the driver's tongue invite people to fall to sleep. Its all about safety. Go Elio!
