over the years I've used frames like the one show in the link to build trailers that have literally been used on 2,000 - 3,000 mile trips .... the weakness I've seen most often comes when the spring hanger comes loose from the frame .... I've literally seen the metal rip like construction paper .... that is an area where you can't cut strength .... I've seen jet ski trailers with 8" wheels that seem to do well but I don't like 8" wheels for distance towing .... on the trailers I have built I don't like to go below 12" and prefer 13"/14" wheels .... if I was to build a trailer to haul behind an Elio I'd use tires the same as the ones on the Elio .... I'd design the trailer to mount a spare tire that could be used on either the trailer or the Elio .... but then that's just me

Jim

Amen to the spare tire for a long trip!

In 93 I held the record for the lightest fully functioning RC Electric model Airplane east to the Mississippi. Guy at Boeing had me beat. Scratch built At 8.7 ounces I had ailerons, elevator, full on/off throttle control. It even flew inside a gym. I could tap the wing as it flew by. I digress. LOL
You could also add this to the hobby thread. LOL I'm sure there are others who would love to hear about it there also. :-) Z

Works great in my 5 speed stang.

Glad someone asked about this, I was thinking of asking. So how does it work? You are cruising along at 70 mph on a standard transmission with cruise control on, you go up a hill, RPMs go down and the speed can't be sustained. Does the cruise control just release automatically, and do you get an indicator light on the dash? does it become 2nd nature to notice the hill, and downshift when you hear/feel the RPMs going down?

I've been wondering the same thing because I have only used cruise on an automatic. :-) Z

Manual transmission all the way for me. I loathe automatic transmissions - they're so boring and make you feel frustratingly disconnected from the car. I realize the modern ones are actually quicker than manuals but boy are they boring. It bugs me seeing people in their paddle shift automatics who think that's anything like the real thing. The death of the true manual transmission in modern cars is really distressing to me.

I loathe autos so much I actually converted my '93 Maxima from auto to manual.

In fact, I loathe autos so much that on my Elio I would actually gladly pay $800 to $1,000 MORE to get it in a manual over an automatic! Thankfully the situation is the other way around, though.

All I want is a manual transmission and cruise control.

Did I mention I loathe auto transmissions?

Both of my two 20+ year old Nissan Maximas (both manual tranmissions) have no problem automatically increasing the revs to account for inclines when in 5th gear and on cruise control. I would be shocked if any factory cruise control system on a manual transmission equipped car did not do the same.
