That is if someone is willing to pay it. A base model Elio at 6800 new, right off the lot loses value. If I bought a used base model, I'd offer 5700. Remember the car isn't worth a lot and why buy a used one when you can buy a brand new one for 6800?

The PT Cruiser was selling as much as $10,000 over MSRP, when it first hit the market. I even heard some dealerships were selling preorders to other customers willing to pay more, leaving the preorder person waiting for their car. :( We will have waited long enough for our Elio so, "no sale" here! :) Now maybe the second one ( not yet ordered ) could be had for the right price! I'll get back to you on that one!:D

If somebody handed me $20k cash for #844 on delivery day I think I would probably pocket it with a smile.

I hear ya. But for my pain and suffering, and wisdom to get in early, I'd need $30k.

Now if I was guaranteed, beyond natural disasters and acts of God, that I'd get an Elio in one year or less, then I might take $20k. *greedy :-)*

Think about people seeing Elio's on the road and going to the website to order one and seeing it's at least a year until they can get one! Don't you think a few peeps would be willing to pay $20k to have one now? Maybe a business for an advertising wrap or just a person with some disposable cash...Mine is going to be in my garage for sale to the highest bidder on ebay....

it depends on what the one I end up ordering cost .... if an automatic transmission cost $1000 or $200 extra (both numbers have been mentioned) it could make a difference ... not to mention other options like cruise control and tinted windows .... I do believe that it might be possible during the period that the only ones being produced are for registration holders, it could be possible to resell one for a bit of a profit .... once production is caught up, that ain't gonna be the case

Miatas were selling for DOUBLE the first year, I had to wait for a '94 before I could afford one.
Not sure if Id sell my Elio for double though, there is something special about a first year car.
My '57 Chevy is actually titled as a '56 it also was a pre-order, it's # 438 (a first day production car), there are a lot of 57's out there but not too many like mine.
