CT,
Music, by it's very nature, does rely heavily on the use of talent and acquired skills. Skills that require years to hone.
Too much of a reach for me, to equate that with "Rap". IMHO I find it to be rather painful.
There are some rather skilled Hip-Hop folks though, must admit it.
Just saying!;)

Understood.
You ever see a professional DJ use a turntable and scratch? Very impressive. I wish I could do that!
Ever listen to someone free-style rap? (make up a rhyme on the fly)? Also impressive, but usually stinks musically, because the focus is the rhyme, not the music.
I'll admit, most rap is garbage, but I won't reject the style as a whole just yet.
Hip-hop on the other hand...
I really like the beats behind Toby Mac and DC Talk. Music is good and the lyrics are inspirational. I also like the old school rappers like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys. I'll even go further back to Dougie Fresh, but now I'm going waaaayyy back.
I love the hard thumping music. The kind that will raise the back wheel of a trike off the ground!

Skynyrd and Floyd will be thumpin' me down the road. :D
Had a sign on the side of my PA in the 60's "If it's too loud, you're too old"

OOoo! See, I'm WAY with you on Skynyrd! Never got too into Pink Floyd. I was for about a semester in college, but then it kind of faded away. (so to speak)
My favorites are actually Prince (don't ask...) and Kid Rock. Kid (before he went country) takes Skynyrd and mixes it with rap and hip hop.
The problem is, I can't listen to his lyrics...

folks likes/dislikes in music falls pretty much in the same vein as likes/dislikes on everything else .... there are brands of cars I won't drive ..... there are places in the country I will not live .... there are politicians I will not support .... there are styles of clothing I will not wear .... there are music genre I find to repulsive .... to be clear, I'm not a musician but I do know what I like .... I consider rap to be garbage in both music and vocal components .... as is Hip-hop .... I find hard thumping music to be an offensive intrusion .... OK, I'm off of my soapbox

Prince, while not my "Brand of Vodka" at all, is very talented and skilled and therefore a musician in my book.
For the times I seem to fade away, I use "Too many Led Zepplin Concerts" as an excuse. ;)

Got to tell you about the time I was mired in traffic in St Pete Fl. Mumbling about the volume of the Rap
emanating from the 22" wheeled, 70's Impala next to me, I happened to look over at it, precisely when,
the "Chevrolet" emblem fell off the trunk. I had to pull into a parking lot to stop LMAO. :D

Nice! Drives me NUTS when others force me to listen to their music as well. Especially at gas pumps and red lights.
Have some common courtesy folks! Especially since the people who are forcing their music on you, are usually fighting a bad stereotype in the first place. They're not helping themselves any!

exactly .... as I noted in post 64, it is offensive .... we live on a two lane, country road and there are times we can feel the vibrations when such vehicles drive by .... for a while some would park in a wide area right up the road .... they seemed to be trying to see whose rig could be the most obnoxious .... I delighted in calling 911 and a few minutes later seeing a deputy drive up

47 years! Call the Pope, Saint Hood is in order!........Am just over 43 years &
she is still putting up with me. :)
Kinda the way I look at my situation also, Kuda. Girls in my office always used to say that my wife had a place in heaven marked special for her. . . . Because she has put up with me for so long.

I give credit for the Allthose years to one, very simple phrase: "yes, dear." :)

Learned early on in the marriage that while saying,"I love you," is a nice thing to say, what they really want to hear is; "yes Dear." And that has worked for me. o_O
