Not in Ohio. Per recent legal change, no motor vehicles other than Tesla can be sold outside the 3-tier system. And yes, by Ohio law, the Elio is a motor vehicle. I have asked Elio for comment on this and have received silence in reply.

if that is the case and I was king of the forest ;) , I'd locate EM dealerships in major population areas just across the state line .... they can't stop their citizens from buying out of state but they can lose some (not all) tax money and jobs for their citizens

Reviewing this and most other posts does nothing but convince me that we should just sit back, relax and if someone has knowledge worth sharing, then post it and the other blowhards can just rant and rave to their little hearts content! I for one put money down in hopes (note the key word HOPE) that Paul and his team could pull this off. He has done a GREAT job, the traveling team has done their part, and the engineers are working as hard as they can to reach our goal. So that being said, let's chill and enjoy the IDEA that we all invested in until new news reaches us... Oh by the way, have a HAPPY HOLIDAY!

The wild speculation in this thread makes me want to wrap some duct tape firmly around my head so it doesn't explode!

Why????
We're all just having a good time here, after All it's Paul and Goofy's fault for not giving us any New News to kick around!!lol
This has been The most Entertianing thing I have run accross since I joined back in April. I quit watching TV, Ebay, so I could see who said what on here, waiting for the Latest news on our Elios and I will continue.

That's interesting. The gas tank is under the rear seat -- and the vehicle ground clearance is spec'd at 5.75 inches (and needs all of it, IMO). So where is the space coming from? If they're keeping the gas tank under the seat, and keeping the vehicle ground clearance while retaining the vehicle height, the gas tank has to become skinnier. Wonder how they're doing that?

Since we're in Speculation Mode(tm), perhaps they're lowering the rear seat by shrinking the gas tank because the new engine is easily getting 100mpg in testing, so they only need a 6.5 gallon tank!

Regardless of any state law they can not stop me from buying a car in LA and bring it home.
I suspect that that is exactly what will happen. My proposal to Elio is that for Ohio buyers, Elio waive the delivery fee and extend the warranty 1,000 miles to cover the mileage put on the car by driving it home from Shreveport. Ohio people buy cars in KY all the time; you get a temp tag and title from KY, go to Ohio, pay your sales tax and get the car titled and registered in Ohio. Don't know about the LA sales tax and how it would work out in this situation.

Another solution is for Elio to put the Ohio sales location in Kentucky. I don't know if they have the same restrictive laws as Ohio (and they very well may), but that might be a work around.

I am concerned that Elio has not responded to my inquiry on this matter. They are going to run into this issue in other states, and need to be able to deal with it.

See my other post on this topic. There's no sales tax in KY. You get your memo title, take it to Ohio, pay the tax, and get the title transferred. No big deal, it happens every day. A pain for the folks in Cleveland, but those of us in Cinci would barely be inconvenienced.
