I believe I remember seeing the cost of the AMT estimated at $1000, the the delivery fee to be $700 unless you are picking up at the factory, in which case the fee may be waived. I wouldn't expect the cruise control to be less than $300, so I would plan on $8800, plus your state and local fees and taxes, less any deposit. Don't forget insurance.
Given the price of the entire vehicle, pricing the AMT at $1,000 seems excessive to me. Elio is not Mercedes! You may be right about these estimates, but if the goal is to keep the car affordable, they're not in support of that.

If I were pricing to make a profit and target my societal goals, I'd charge $250-400 extra for the AMT (same tranny, just the servos to activate it -- no huge extra cost here), $150 for cruise. The company will make money at those prices, and the car remains affordable for its true market.

Now let me see..... I'll want a cd player...doesn't have to be with a changer. No cruise control, just never used 'em. Got my own GPS and back up camera. So now all I'll need is my kids and grandkids, whom I've put thru college and ate beans for to now PAY FOR MY ELIO!! THEY OWE ME!!
If it's a 2-DIN connector, you can put in the radio plus CD plus bluetooth plus SD-card based GPS plus back up camera for under $250after-market, plus installation.

The price is affordable. $6800. You don't need an automatic transmission or cruise control. Elio is not some kind of a social program.
It will get you from point A to point B with reliability and economy. Those, as I recall, were the general goals.
Want more than that? Pay extra! What the manufacturer wants for extras, not what you think is reasonable.

Well, I think those are very noble goals you aspire to, and when you decide to produce a vehicle that meets your criteria , I will be happy to put a 1k deposit on it's future, provided, of course it comes with a "T" shirt

regardless of what EM says about it being an "and car" or anything else, each buyer will determine how their Elio is used .... some will use it for daily commutes from point A to point B, some will use it to travel across the country .... I agree that folks who wish to add options to the base model need should expect to pay the price .... it would seem reasonable to believe that some additional options will only be available through EM, some only from aftermarket sources and some from both .... some folks will need (not just want) items like the AMT and cruise control, with my knees, count me among that group .... in addition, without an AMT we will not be in the market for an Elio .... simply put, many years ago my wife drove a strait drive, didn't like it at all, and says she never will again .... end of story

I would go total base Elio except that my wife also will not shift . So, my Elio will definitely be rocking an AMT . I have no use for cruise but since there is no back window , I think I may want a backup camera . Once there is a robust aftermarket for this unique vehicle, we will see what else we can't live without .

Can't argue with you at all. A lot of people I know have had to have artificial knees. And I'm not arguing about AMT being an option.
A lot of us have special needs. A lot of us have special wants. That doesn't mean it should be forced on everyone or subsidized by everyone.
If you need / want a special option you should pay for it. I don't demand EMP shielding on everything just because I have a pacemaker. I'm just happy I'm on the top side of the dirt looking down at the grass rather than under the dirt looking up

Every 6 weeks or so, I take a 150 mile trip down 95 and cruise is great for that kind of a drive. Otherwise, for me it will be a commuter and "around town" car. If I need GPS or internet, I have a smartphone.

JEBar, My Elio will have AMT for the same reasons as yours.

Congratulations on reaching your 3006th message. I have been second only to Zelio as a notable member for more than nine months but have now been displaced to number three behind you (GoofyOne doesn't count because he is staff). Have enjoyed your posts, humor, facts civility, and travel logs. Thanks for keeping the forum interesting and informative..........Jim
