Elio has created this market but simply cannot produce. I'm sure the automakers already have plans to give this new market what its asking for... an inexpensive gas saving vehicle. Elio... I'm worried about your future. -JJ

agree with creating the market but seriously doubt that any of the major automakers would be able to produce a similar vehicle for anywhere near the price .... their corporate structure is such that they have way too much in the way of operating expenses to do so

As PE described in his talk Elio Motors
is shifting the auto making
paradigm & this new way of doing
things will benefit suppliers as well
as consumers.......:)

Think India and China.................

China could certainly manufacture a similar trike but not with the quality of motor and ship it over here for that price .... I could see them as a competitor for the third world market but not for the US

Don't be too quick to dismiss Chinese quality, Japan, Korea had the same rep for years, and bingo!
My solid wood kitchen cabinets for example- wood was shipped from Canada to China, fabricated, packaged and shipped back, w/ excellent quality and a great price.

China can make quality products but only under foreign supervision. Hence your Apple products etc...

Well, we agree they can make quality products, your other remark sounds like only under parent's supervision. China is the leading exporter on the planet, they are the engine that drives our economy (think Walmart etc etc.), if they decided to call in American Treasury notes, they own us. The have over 60 car companies, of which I'm sure could develop and meet the highest of standards, materials, safety, quality and design.
They also have cheap labor, untapped natural resources, and very limited government control. By the time Apple develops their car 10 yrs +/- they'll have contacts in place to have them built in China. Of course, they could always set up shop right here. If EM doesn't work out, there's a great automotive manufacturing plant that will be available!
