I believe in this project from an environmental perspective as well as a personal financial investment. To be frank, even if it does not succeed, I love the way a dream can be supported by this wonderful community. That said it is reasonable to expect questions that allow accountability that can be asked critically, but not personally denigrating. I agree with the non-offensive assertive comments that employ mature responses. I think it is easy to allow emotions to skew our good judgment in how to be respectful with an issue that is both exciting and scary. I hope that the questioners use respect, but also earn and be allowed to be respected in reciprocation.

If the Elio "only" got 40 MPG , I would still buy one . Everyone has their own motivations for wanting to own this vehicle .
For me , I am intrigued by an American made , radical 3 wheeled design that can sell for less than $8000 brand new . Someone has to compete with the Chinese , so why not Elio ? Call me shallow but I like the way it looks too . Let's face it , if it looked like a rat's behind , we probably would not be enthusiastic about it's debut. Once I own one or maybe two , there is little doubt that I will try to supercharge the diminutive 3 banger, ergo environmental benefits are low on my list .

Environmental attached to anything is becoming a buzz word for scam. There are a lot of reasons I want to see the ELIO built environmental is not on that list. Go green means get ripped off.
