PJ, are you the same guy that screwed up pickup trucks by lopping 2' off the box to add more dang seats? If so, we need to talk!
I ( and I'd bet a lot of the people I see driving solo every day on my 45 mile commute) could care less if the back seat holds 2 rug rats.
Anyone up here will need 2...
If we go your route, it'll be $20K after a full redesign, weigh almost twice as nuch, need more power to drag it's now fat ass around, and get 40 MPG.
3 tiny seats is no more practical than 2 for many out there.
Let's use 35mph as a lifetime average vehicle speed. You could simulate 100,000 miles of run time in around 4 months of round the clock dyno running.
Assuming multiple engines being tested, one might be on that cycle, another running start/stop tests, one running at max load till failure, and...
If that block showed up in a decent machine shop today, it could be ready for coating in a day or less.
Most coatings require a week or more lead time, then a couple days (conservative) for inspection/assembly.
The bottom line is that testing in June is possible.
Maybe it won't happen, maybe...
All the more reason to find a more efficient truck. Fuel is THE biggest expense in trucking. An OTR truck may run 150000 miles a year. At 6 MPG that's 25000 gallons of $4+ diesel.
There are guys out there getting close to the 10 mark, with well speced rigs driven just right, but that's the...
5% is something you ain't gonna see on a 55hp motor. It'll be closer to the top end. AC compressors (depending on sizing) can pull up to 20hp. Obviously a little cab like the Elio won't need one that big, but they do rob power and economy.
