I've found this in my searching tonight: http://www.aisin-ai.co.jp/english/products/others.html
The previously mentioned MC5 is listed there, and another 5 speed the MC25. These are made by Aisin AI, an independent company in Japan under Aisin Seiki (the main Co.). They produce(d) products...
I know Aisin is a Japanese company, but it seems they have some drivetrain and other production facilities in the USA: http://www.aisin.com/profile/global/north_america/
Whether the transmissions the Elio will use are going to be manufactured in the US is definitely a good question that I'd...
I know some forum members here have experience with an AMT. They seem to be, along with CVTs, the "next new thing", however. This one will be a single, dry-clutch design. AMTs potentially have a lot of advantages over traditional torque-converter based automatics in that they have no fluid...
Oh really? My mistake, then. I hadn't seen anything about that. Thanks for the information! I hope it'd eventually get its own name, as I'd think that be important for branching out to producing other models many years down the line. I suppose simply the Elio would suffice for quite a while.
I eagerly await to hear what this potentially revolutionary trike will be named. Calling it "the Elio" is a tiny bit frustrating because I'm pretty sure that won't be its final name, and we're hopefully just less than a year from production.
Personally I think I'd prefer a simple, perhaps...
Here's a video of I think a very similar (maybe the same transmission??) AMT in use that will be installed in the Elio Automatic Transmission equipped car:
I know the Smart Fortwo uses an AMT, however, that is NOT going to be the same transmission in the Elio. It has received generally...
I think it'd definitely behave differently than a normal automatic transmission, from my understanding of this sort of transmission. But I too don't see much of an issue. It'll be quite easy to operate I suspect. Personally if I do get the AMT I suspect a lot of the time I'll just have it in...
And to think the Elio will be about 800lbs lighter, with a similar hp to lb ratio, 50% longer wheelbase, wider track, and similar height. Maybe the weight distribution will be poorer, but I'd say these stats are promising for the Elio.
Considering just how light the Elio is, and that fact it's equipped with ABS, Stability Control, and (so I've read) toggled traction control, I suspect it has the potential to handle very well. The lack of power steering may improve the road-feel as well. Sure it's not going to be quick out of...
I'm curious as to what percentage will actually be US made. I know the website specifically says "North American" but I'm fearing a big chunk would be made in Mexico, as many parts are these days. Anyone have an idea of the breakdown, yet? It's probably far too early to know I imagine. I do...
While I haven't seen it in person, I think with the idiot lights clustered around the centers of the two disks, it'd be difficult to not block them in some way by putting something in front of the cluster. I think you'll have enough room to either side of the gauges for anything you'd like to...
The numbers in the prototype are not digital. It's an actual spinning disc. This is planned to be the case in the final design as well. Information like the odometer, engine temp, speed (mph), etc.. are planned to be shown on the the lower-center red LCD screen in between the tachometer and...
Ah, so that middle indentation is the engine temperature? If I am seeing that right and remembering what that symbol is lol.
Yeah I like it, and would consider blue more if it were like that. Are those Tesla headlights and lines? Looks pretty good overall.
