Automatics only get better mileage than manuals when the manual driver is not paying attention. By definition, automatics have to react to past conditions and cannot make predictions. Go up a hill? The automatic has to wait for the speed to drop to kick in some more gas, and then decide to...
I have been driving an MR2 for years. I don't remember the exact figures now, but the Elio front track is 1" wider and it is 6" higher and longer. The only real difference is that the front width includes the fenders, so it will be less visible that way. But if I have had no problems with...
This is my point, and it can't be repeated too often. It especially matters for those of us who need long distance glasses to drive. I can see a needle, but I cannot read numbers without taking my eyes off the road for several seconds. And a tach -- forget it, it will be moving at the same...
My hatred for the Elgin dash has nothing to do with style and everything to do with practicality -- if I wear my distance glasses while driving, I cannot read the dash numbers, but I can easily see where needles point.
I can usually get by without reading the speedo, since surrounding traffic...
Amazing how uninformed and prejudiced he was. To call the Elio "backwards" because he thinks trikes look better with two rear wheels is to ignore basic trike stability facts which have been well known for ages. To rant on and on about motorcycles, motorcycle insurance, motorcycle helmets, etc...
Good link, thanks; if you posted it previously, sorry I missed it. It does have an interesting typo of sorts:
I think they meant "without"....
The only advantage I see to an automatic is to eventually allow a self-driving mode (I expect there *may* be aftermarket kits in 5-10 years, suitable...
I've never driven an AMT. I googled and read a bit, and find the mystery was half from not knowing the jargon (dual clutches, etc).
One thing I could find noething about was about slow speeds and slipping the clutch. For instance, in stop and ccrawl commute traffic, sometimes I will leave the...
This is the problem with every digital instrument; you have to focus and read something, instead of simply being aware of a needle's position with your peripheral vision.
The Elgin makes it even worse by wasting all that dash space to hide everything but the current value. If the other values...
Past Fanatic is the poster here. I doubt anyone in meatspace calls him Past Fanatic. If someone is a jerk at work, his coworkers don't care if his kids like him. His personality away from here is irrelevant and immaterial.
I was thinking more of the lettering and other cosmetic aspects, plus the valve stem. Aside from directionality, I don't know that there actually needs to be a difference, but if manufacturers know only one side needs lettering and the valve stem, I wouldn't be surprised if other design aspects...
The rear tire pretty much has to be a custom tire. Standard car tires have an inside and outside; Elio doesn't. Motorcycle tires have no inside or outside, but are rounded to allow leaning during turns; the Elio doesn't do that.
I've been thinking of white for the body, for night visibility, with red and green fenders for visibility in snow.
If enough people expressed interest in mismatched colors, I wonder if Elio could set up a swap forum.
But the fenders look like an easy paint job -- removable, little or nothing...
