62 Year Old Autocycle

GOLIATH (GO-LEE-AT) WAS THE COMPANY .
THEY WERE BASED IN BREMEN GERMANY .

GOLI ( GO-LEE) IS THE MODEL NAME .
THEY WERE QUITE WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR DREIRAD 3 WHEEL TRUCKS
PRODUCED FROM 1928-1961 .

I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO VERIFY , JUST TWO GOLIs IN THE UNITED STATES .
MY 1959 MODEL SEEN HERE AND A WHITE 1956 ONE IN CALIFORNIA IN RATHER POOR CONDITION .
IT HAS A 500cc TWO STROKE ENGINE & THE GAME IS OVER WHEN YOU REACH A STEEP HILL .

Or bump it up to a 1,000cc motor 4 stroke, or put a Porsche engine in the rear to drive the rear wheels, that baby would fly :becky:

The problem is in the exhaust system. Put on a set of good "chambers", and it would be much better.
But then it wouldn't be original or stock.

GOLIATH MADE THESE 500cc MOTORS FOR THE THREE WHEEL TRUCK .
THEY HAD A SIMILAR MOTOR IN THEIR 4 WHEEL CARS & TRUCKS .

THE 4 WHEELERS WERE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WITH AN EAST/WEST CRANKSHAFT
A GENERATION BEFORE THE MINI .

THEY HAD BOTH 700cc & 900cc SIZES . PERHAPS MOST AMAZING IS THAT THEY OFFERED FUEL INJECTED
PRODUCTION VEHICLES IN 1952 , TWO YEARS BEFORE MERCEDES WHO KEEPS CLAIMING THEY WERE FIRST !

MAN-O-MAN I BET MY TRUCK COULD DO 60mph WITH ONE OF THOSE MOTORS !

Premiered in 1952, the Goliath GP 700E anticipated a technology that was not adopted in mass production until the end of the 20th century. Back then, almost 50 years earlier, Carl F. W. Borgward first became enthusiastic about the potential of direct fuel injection systems. They could dramatically improve consumption, drivability and emissions, especially in conjunction with the two-stroke engines that were commonplace in 1952. The Goliath GP 700E was a sensation and set a milestone in automotive history; it was the first regular production car with direct fuel injection offered motorists an incredible 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared with a carburettor version. Overrun fuel cut-off reduced emissions of the car’s neat 700 cc 29 hp two-stroke engine.

NOW THAT THE KR-175 IS OFF TO THE RACES , IT IS TIME TO GET ON WITH OTHER PROJECTS .
MY '57 KR-200 WAS USED AS A MULE TO GET THE '59 TG-500 THROUGH THE TITLING PROCESS .
THE TG-500 HAS BEEN A 7 YEAR PROJECT SO FAR & IS ONE OF MY DREAM CARS .

THE BODIES FOR BOTH CARS ARE NOW AT THE PAINTSHOP .
TROUBLE IS , CHRIS , MY PAINT GUY KEEPS GETTING DISTRACTED WITH THE
INSURANCE WORK COMING IN & A BUNCH OF CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE WORK .

I AM TRYING TO KEEP A SCHEDULE WITH THESE CARS , I WAS TRYING TO GET THE TG DONE
BEFORE PAUL SELLS HIS FIRST ELIO . THAT SEEMED LIKE A MONUMENTAL TASK AT FIRST
BUT PAUL KEEPS GIVING ME EXTENSIONS !

STILL , IT GETS DISCOURAGING WHEN YOU VISIT THE PAINTSHOP AND
YOU SEE THAT THEY HAVE STARTED STACKING TOOLS AND OTHER PEOPLE'S PARTS
ON TOP OF YOUR MESSERSCHMITT TUBS .
