My old Previa van has a valve in the refrigerant line that opens when the rear fans are turned on. There is one for each side with separate speed controls. So no extra energy is used if you leave those fans off.They come both ways. Usually on some larger vans you can find the electric AC in the back. If no one is back there, no need to even have freon going bach there.
