Perhaps the opportunity for yet another poll. If you have a Pep Boys within 60 miles would you feel comfortable using them to service your Elio. It seems every time I mention Elio....somebody has some negative comment about Pep Boys. Checking on line reviews......not that good either. What's the real scoop on Pep Boys quality? I ass'u'me Elio would only align themselves with a high quality servicing network?
In my town Pep Boys is where people recommend you go for servicing. There are only 3 reputable repair shops in the town (out of many dozens) and they are one. As such, there's usually a 1-2 day wait before dropping your car off and getting it back because they get so much business. I've always had the job done right on the first try there.

You can go anywhere for PM and servicing. It's only warranty work you have to use Pep Boys.

I am 6 miles away from a pep boys in OKC. Anybody who commutes 40-75 miles a day one way will be out of warranty in less than two years, some even less. Why EM has a 3yr./36,000 mile warranty is beyond me. Wanna bet those 100,000 mile ubuyit warranties will be offered by EM management?

Dump it off with a year left. That alone should be worth an extra 3-400.
Put away $250 a month and get a new one every two years.

If you are not, how far are you and how far are you to an EM Showroom?
I'm not putting down PBs quality of service only lack of locations.
I'm only pushing my reasoning for having a reimbursement program from any shop anywhere for repairs not preventative maintenance.

Go to showroom, then location.

EM showroom will be in my hometown. (Memphis, TN)
Nearest Pep Boys- 200+ miles!

If they are not providing service at the showroom I will seriously have to reconsider my commitment to the Elio. I knew going in that my $100 might end up being a donation. Hopefully the showrooms will provide service as well. If not, I just don't understand trying to sell a vehicle that has to be transported 200 miles to be serviced. A showroom that far away from service seems doomed to fail. That just makes no sense to me.

With 800 service centers and 7,500 service bays in 35 states and Puerto Rico, Pep Boys will provide Elio Motors customers with convenient service options from one of the most trusted names in the automotive aftermarket. Pep Boys is located in 90 percent of the markets where Elio Motors will operate. Elio Motors will service vehicles at its company owned stores in remaining markets.

Not to worry. Elio is working on other servicing options for those future owners not having access to PB's.

After thinking about this a lot, it has come down to this for me.
If my car ends up needing warranty work or ends up on the side of the road, it's going to the nearest fix it shop and I'm sending them the bill. If they don't reimburse me, they can kiss mine and any chance of me getting another one or any one else I know getting one.

Too bad the nearest Elio dealership will be even further than the nearest Pep Boys. That plan probably only takes them from 90% coverage to 91% coverage. I see it as more of a feel good measure than an actual resolution to the issue.

That's an idea. I'm going the route of simply not buying one until I know that the issue is resolved. One thing that I think gets glossed over in the conversation is that we are essentially buying a prototype. I'd probably put more miles on one in my first year of ownership than they are going to log between all of their prototypes before they go to market. I usually don't buy first generation of a new technology simply because all the bugs need to be worked out. If I know that there is going to be somewhere in my town to get warranty repairs done, I'll go ahead and make an exception to that rule for this car. But not if I can't guarantee that when this thing breaks down, there will be someplace nearby to take it.
