Not being anything close to a mechanic, I do remember drilling a hole in the cap to solve it?

Basically, I think that is what they said solved it. They left the cap off and it performed better. Drilling a hole would make sense since it would do the same thing, prevent negative air pressure.

Back when they had them did the same thing with the distributor cap, being careful to drill upwards
