Here's a winner in the most asinine ticket category. I few years back I got a ticket for parking on the tree lawn. It was an open field with no sidewalk thus no tree lawn. Here's the kicker… The ticket was written at 2am in the morning. Needless to say the bucket of $5 work of pennies was appropriate to pay the fine. With a smile on my face, I made the girl count out the pennies to make sure I didn't cheat her.
I once got pulled over in DC for reckless parking.
I still don't know...

I got a ticket for a moving violation when on my motorcycle, When Iasked the officer why did he stop me. He said I ran the stop sign. I replied, I thought I stopped, looked both ways, then double checked, before pulling out to the right. He replied, you did but you did not put your feet down...

interesting .... one of the requirements a person must demonstrate to get a motorcycle license in NC (so far as I know it still its) is to come to a complete stop and balance the bike so as to not have to put their feet down

So when I was paying my fine the police chief came out and told me I couldn't pay a fine with pennies. I showed him the ticket. He shook his head in disgust and told the girl to count the pennies. We became fast friends after that.
Hmmmmm I seem to remember reading that paying for something over 25 cents in penny's was not legal tender.
I'm going to go dig and see if I can find that again.

In WA they have a full course that you have to travel far enough to use 2nd gear, then come up to the line and stop; another is a left / right 8 cone, U-turn then back through the left / right cone course. When I took the test I asked the guy testing if it was before the line, on the line, or at the edge of the line. That didn't make him happy, and he told me "must be exactly in the middle of the line or I fail you ("smartass" under his breath)" He even brought out a ruler; I nailed it :becky:

back in the day a M C endorsement - all ya need do was add $5.00 to driver's renewal and you were off,(no test) as I moved from state to state they tried but I caught their attempt to drop it each time. Haven't yet got around to it here in Washington.

Earlier WA had 3 classes of MC endorsements A - 10 to 100cc B - 101 to 599cc C - 600cc - up to as big as was sold.
Now I think it's 4 classes of bike, plus 1 for side car, 1 for trike, 1 for reverse trike and you need just a driver's license for AutoCars.
To get that endorsement, you have to test on that size and type of bike.

http://www.snopes.com/business/money/pennies.asp

"Up until the late 19th century, pennies and nickels weren't legal tender at all. The Coinage Acts of 1873 and 1879 made them legal tender for debts up to 25 cents only, while the other fractional coins (dimes, quarters, and half dollars) were legal tender for amounts up to $10. This remained the law until the Coinage Act of 1965 specified that all U.S. coins are legal tender in any amount. However, even in cases where legal tender has been agreed to as a form of payment, private businesses are still free to specify which forms of legal tender they will accept. If a shop doesn't want to take any currency larger than $20 bills, or they don't want to take pennies at all, or they want to be paid in nothing but dimes, they're entitled to do so (but, as mentioned earlier, they should specify their payment policies before entering into transactions with buyers). Businesses are free to accept or reject pennies as they see fit; no law specifies that pennies cease to be considered legal tender when proffered in quantities over a particular amount."

I added the emphasis to "private businesses".

Hadn't heard of different level of MC endorsements before. Interesting.

Here's the link to the state licensing info on bikes. WA DOL MC
It also has links in it that show the 5 phases of the bike test.
And they talk about the Evergreen Safety Council for getting training; I was a part-time instructor for the classes for a couple of years in the late 80's..
Pretty cool group of people, and the Seattle Cossacks were invited to take the classes in 84 as a PR thing for the local media.
We all walked away saying that we had each learned something new; the funny part of that is with the group that showed up we had a combined 200 years of experience and a few million riding miles (two of the guys had been riding for 50+ years).
