It's on the product road map, but all-new Tesla Roadster on tap. It will not be based on the Lotus Elise body as before. Need to get some serious coin flowing first with the Model 3 and Model Y first since a Roadster would be decidely low-volume. Good article.
It shows the difficulty in making an mostly new car with new technology. Even Elon Musk, with all of his funding and expertise, BARELY made it.
My guess is that a new roadster will be a completely original design with all in-house components.

Other established car companies have tried to make electrical vehicles and failed miserably.

I was just reading that article; I love how he plugs the removal of the Elgin; to quote:
"..........makes it easier to see the new traditional dials on the dash and cleaner looking interior."
