Safety is critical for me as well. I doubt the Elio is perceived as safe and only hope testing proves it is.I have "sold" perhaps 10 to 12 of these things in the past year and a half. But then I run in circles that tend to be thrifty, believe in simplicity, and care about the planet. Or maybe at my age I should simply say I limp in circles.
I to find that safety is a critical issue. The car not only has to be safe, it has to be perceived as safe. To me that means for one thing avoiding head on camera angles which make the thing look spindly and weird and using oblique angles which make it look like a normal car. Well more or less normal.
But once people wrap their heads around the idea that this car can actually happen they do get interested in many actually want to buy one. I don't find it a hard sell at all really.
I have recently been evangelized by my brother. (first time posting on this site), and now I'm in the process of trying to convert my son-in-law. Yes, the logic has to be there (affordability, mpg, carbon footprint, supporting capitalism, safety, viability of the company) - but once those criteria are met, the excitement, the sex appeal, the shared goals and values, the camaraderie among fellow Elio-ites, all becomes infectious and almost religious.
It wasn't too hard of a sell for me. My brother and I each bought '97 3 cyl metros 10 years ago, overhauled the engines together and had mpg competition and tracked and charted our overall car expenses yearly to see who could own/maintain/drive our metros the cheapest. It was great fun. I'm 51 and my mid life crisis is to sell my large home, dejunk, and simplify my life. I'm $100 all in but will upgrade to $1,000 in the next few weeks. My only hesitation initially was with the viability of the company. I feel more comfortable in that regard now and figure even if I loose it, it will have been for a good cause.

That's exactly how I feel about both the Elio and the SRK. Finally, motorcycles I can ride/drive, enclosed so out of the elements, and the safest motorcycles soon to be on the road.Safety, Shmafety................I've been "riding" for over 45 years and the Elio, no matter how it performs in the E series tests, is safer than ANY 2 wheeled motorcycle !!
When I first started handing out cards a few years ago nobody had heard of it. Now almost 80% have heard, about 80% of that seem interested in owning (maybe) 50% very, and 25% want one now if it was out. Only about 1 in 50 have skin in the game right now, about 1 in 20 are big time enthusiasts. Things have changed a lot since my first cards were handed out. I have only one card left, people keep trying to take the card home with them.I was visiting family in Phoenix this week, and (somehow) multiple conversations came around to the Elio
My brother-in-law watched the Alter The Course video and fell in love with it. He's sick of commuting through Phoenix traffic in his truck, so the Elio as an "and" car is perfect for him.
My elderly Aunt is taking care of her even more elderly mother (my 91 y/o grandmother), and both of them live together on Social Security. To my Aunt, the Elio sounded like an excellent alternative to endlessly repairing her '92 Ford Taurus station wagon.
However, both expressed strong concerns about saftey, it being such a light car. If these E-series tests pull through, then I may have just sold two more Elios
I know I'm not the only person who gushes about the Elio to all my friends and family. What sort of reception have you gals and guys gotten?
