Hidy Folks,

Sorry to say but the U.S. has never been in a legal declared war with North Korea... The U.S. has only been in "Formally Declared Wars" five times... The rest have been "military engagements" approved and funded by Congress or United Nations military actions (U.N. Security Council) that were funded and supported by the U.S. You know we send in "Military Advisors"... You are correct that no formal peace treaty has ever been worked out between North and South Korea... An Armistice was signed in 1953 declaring a "cessation of hostilities" and POW's were repatriated but that's about as far as it went...
Interesting stuff... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_war_by_the_United_States

I stand corrected, Hawg, but would you mind if I consider and Identify myself as a friend of the South Koreans and am still justified by saying my friends and I are still at war with the North Koreans. It's just a technicality, I know, but this way we can both be correct in that as far as America is concerned we only participated in a police Action in accordance with a UN vote. The lack of piece has always been due completely to the mental illness called communism in North Korea. LOL One last piece of trivia. The 8th Army still supporting South Korea to this day, was mustered right here in Memphis Tenn. during WWII. My Uncle served in it during WW II. I served in Korea in 1968 as an ASA spook which was the Army counterpart to NSA (National Security Agency) sound familiar??? LOL

Whoa no dispute from me on your fact, RU. I think that's interesting too but I don't think the hostilities are comparable. Do YOu?

No worries, Folks... First let me thank you and your Uncle for you service. I had Uncles that fought in WWII (Pacific, Europe) as well, and they sort of instilled in me the idea that war is a terrible thing so the reasons for fighting one should be very good and you should always fight to win... It is difficult for Nation states to avoid these conflicts (brush wars, police actions etc...) Even Jefferson who counseled "Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none" ended up in a couple of these "undeclared wars".
Anyway, its all good ... didn't mean to get off into the heavy philosophy stuff... One thing I like about this forum is there are some real interesting folks here with some thought provoking ideas...

Staying on topic should be the most important goal for the success of this site. Credit for the benevolence, grace, and tolerance of this site lies squarely on the shoulders of Joshua Caldwell and Goofyone.
Funny how one can tell how self deprecating and tolerant one is by how they name themselves for the site. Goofyone is a perfect example. I'm so inspired that I'm thinking of changing my name for this site to Goofytwo. LOL
Speaking of interesting people some of my old flying buddies (toy RC types only) keep me up to date on flying stuff. They sent me a link about this guy who has extensive combat fling experience in all three of these; The P51, Spitfire, and Me109s. I kid you not. You might know that the guy lives in Texas.

PS if this were a Texan telling this story I might have trouble believing it. LOL

To my friends who love airplanes, this is an amazing find.

Some of you may know about this. Don't forget to watch the video.

I don't remember. LOL I remember when he went on the radio and announced the cessation of hostilities with the North Koreans. Lots of people don't know that we technically are still at war with them. But then again I can't figure the desperation and depravity it took to vote for the big "O"either.
I, too, remember that radio address. I was 7 at the time, I think.

What a great link Folks! Thanks for the info... I haven't had the pleasure meeting Mr. Edwards, but I'd surely love to see his place and those old war birds... I do have a friend that is a surviving member of the 23rd Pursuit Group, Flying Tigers. Mr. E.P. Bullock... He lives near me, and I became friends with him and his squadron mate Jack Green several years ago. Jack has passed away but the two of them had some really great stories and are two of the finest gentlemen I've ever had the honor to meet. They were members of the group after the USAAF had taken over the AVG (American Volunteer Group) and they flew both P-40's and P-51.

Thanks Hawg; What a small world. My Patents retired to Harlingen before they passed. Bet we could bore them silly around here with old war stories. LOL But gotta stay on topic. LOL It's killing me. There was a Chinese Taiwan Computer Store here in Memphis I frequented. I was kiddng them about how they owed us for helping with the Flying Tigers. Imagine my surprise with they yelled to the back room for some guy who claimed he was the great grand son of General Chennault. Go figure.
