Compression to octane ratio is a guideline, not a fixed rule.

Under the right conditions, you can safely run 12:1 compression with 87 octane.

Power curve and gear ratio tuning are probably factors.

... and they'll address the engine in next Friday's blog. I'm looking forward to hearing some actual facts and info about the engine. Other than the first dyno test where they were mum about the results (understandably if it didn't perform up to specs), we haven't really heard much. Well, I haven't heard much, anyway.
