I'm somewhat confused by the classifications and all. It seems a bit odd to promote the fact that the Elio is classed as a motorcycle at the federal level, while simultaneously promoting the creation of a new class, the autocycle. Does all of the autocycle legislation promote open autocycle use of the HOV lanes? I too fear that the best of both worlds may not be viable for long, but I think the spirit of the Elio is in line with the idea of allowing hybrids and electric vehicle open access, so should be exempted as well.

With legislation as slow as it often is, I'm just hoping that by the time I get my Elio I don't have to wrestle with tons of ambiguous or unreasonable laws in my state.

The AAMVA autocycle classification still classifies the Elio as the three wheeled motorcycle it is.

Rule number 1 - if anything new comes along, there quickly follows an entire army division of regulators, regulations, and enforcement divisions that will certainly articulate, pontificate and legislate a bewildering array of misconceptions, prejudices, and opinions, none of which represent any factual information at all, and will leave us asking this question for the next decade....

The difference here on regulation is that we are asking that the State MC Codes be modified to motorcycle license endorsement and helmet exempt Elio owners when registering and licensing their new Elios.......a good thing.
