I don't know much about the 4.0. I just remember hearing about a lot of the 3.0 engines going up around 100,000 miles.
Very interesting. Thanks. Just so happen the one that was close to what I wanted had the 4.0 in it. If I got to pick, I would have chose the 3.0 to save gas. Perhaps got lucky on that one. :) It has been very hard on gas, but otherwise doing good.

The early 80's Chevy 2.8 V6 had some notorious bottom end problems; they would break cranks or middle rods.
It came back to be oiling problems; they had done a poor design of the oil passages to the middle of the motor.
The other Chevy motor that had problems were the I4 that they put in Vega's; it was a little 2.3 liter overhead cam motor that was designed in England by Cosworth (that should explain it right there), plus the Vega had horrendous rust problems; I think they came with rust the day they were new.
Corvair's used to throw the fan belts because of they way they designed it; it went from horizontal (to spin the motor cooling fan (they were air cooled) to vertical off the crank by way of two small pulleys. When you would down shift, the revs would shoot up, and spit the belt off. You learned to carry a spare or two and the tools to reinstall it. (I had a Corvair trike, reversed motor, so you sat over the motor with a carb at each elbow, it could wheelie at 60 just by cranking on the throttle).

I had a 1985 S-10 I bought brand new, had the 2.8l engine with an automatic. 17 years later and 186,000 miles later, it was still moving along, but I needed a bigger vehicle. Only thing I had to do was replace the gasket for the intake manifold, which is a common GM issue.

I don't suppose anybody has any knowledge of the miles P4 has accumulated yet?

It's irrelevant. The P4 is a mule. An Elio body with a Geo engine. A dead end.

I understand it is a test mule, a tired and beat Geo engine, blah blah blah.

I am just curious how many miles you put on a rented mule. That is all. Not like I am looking for production vehicle numbers here. :fish2:

I think it would be safe to say the P5 has traveled many more miles inside of its trailer than it has under its own power .... a more specific number might be available from the folks who run the tour
