So I was thinking about the Skyz system, with it's $2000 price tag and it got me thinking...
If it comes with lifetime mobile internet as part of the system, how does that compare to other mobile internet options?

Well, getting mobile internet through a contract carrier is right around $30/month nowadays. If we assume the Skyz hardware costs around $300 all-told, then you're paying $1700 for the unlimited internet. If you were to spend that same money on a contract carrier @ $30/month, you'd be able to buy 56 months of internet (4 years and 8 months).

So really, with all that Skyz offers, (and IF it comes with unlimited internet as part of the deal) as long as you plan on keeping your Elio for 5 years then it's a pretty good deal! And it will be a selling point when you finally do sell your Elio to the next person, regardless of how long you keep it.

Of course, if it doesn't come with free internet, then the whole thing is a sham and I'd avoid it like the proverbial plague.

I agreed with you up until the last sentence. It really depends on what you want it for. I like to know exact mileage for each trip, even if it isn't necessary for me. I could just find out with each tank. I just like having that information readily available.

Did you include all of the equipment in your estimate?
The 360 degree camera (similar to a system like this), the broadcast interface, the remote control for the locks and remote starter, and a few other items.
Someone else went and found more information on it
Skyz System

The equipment is a little more than $300.
All of those things, particularly when bought in bulk, shouldn't add up to more than $300. Especially seeing as Skyz is a tech startup and not a hardware manufacturer, I'd bet they are sourcing primarily cheap hardware from China (not neccessarily a bad thing, over the last few years we've started getting some quality hardware out of China. The market has been raising it's voice, and China has been listening.) Skyz isn't really re-inventing the mousetrap, they've just found a way to connect the mousetrap to an iPhone app.

Touché. To each their own. I guess I just don't see much value in it myself if it comes with an extra monthly bill on top of that price.

Is the "proverbial Plague" another option?
I heard they were considering it, but they haven't been able to nail down the price yet.

I'm also not seeing the benefits to this @ $2K with no screen and me having to supply my own tablet, phone and smartwatch to be able to take advantage of the data. While it seems cool, that's a lot of cash for an "incomplete" device.

I'm looking into this device for my current car:

Automatic: The Car App for Every Driver

$100 and some really cool apps plus it's compatible with Nest, another device I'm interested in.

It looks like you can move it from car to car also if you own more than one car.
Cool device.

As for the Skyz System; talk to the people at Infinite Skyz, they do respond to any questions you ask them (I've written them a couple of times); and since they make the systems, they would be the most informed about it; even more so than EM.

I emailed Infinite Skyz a couple of months ago and asked if they were considering a head-up display. It took about a month for them to get back to me, only to tell me they don't give out future designs.

Hmm when I emailed them, they got back to me 2 days later.

Don't know what to tell you.
