A few 7 hour trips from Cedarville, OH to Northern VA (hopefully). My nephew-in-law had a Jeep... he said it rode very rough, MPG was hoh-rih-bull. If your son won't be driving it long distances most of the time, and doesn't mind the bad MPG... and the high costs of the big tires... go for it.
Yep. Always a concern...my concern with a Jeep with lift kit is its center of gravity .... I've owned them, driven them, come very close to rolling them .... in the hands of an inexperienced driver, the results of a swerve to miss a dog, pothole, whatever can be bad .... as can marginally over correcting if/when on wheel should drop off the side of the road .... forget mileage,
How much would the '90 wrangler go for now?I've had tons of Jeeps, mostly Cherokees, but I did have a '90 Wrangler with a 1.5" lift and 31" tires that I had a lot of fun with. One thing I learned quickly with the Wrangler is that if you're on any 'slick stuff' you'd better be on high alert. Since the back wheels are basically just behind your butt, if the rears break loose you have 'zero' time to think about it, you're spinning! Unlike my looooong wheelbased truck which real forgiving on the ice and snow. The 4.0L straight six is a fantastic engine, it's the one I'm most familiar with, and lasts forever if you do your maintenance, but the mpg pretty much blows as someone mentioned earlier.
