Arizona "Cardinals" v. St. Louis "Rams"? What they hey? When the Oilers moved to Tennessee it took a couple years to realize there wasn't any oil there and maybe they ought to come up with a new name. (Remember the Tennessee Oilers/) At least the Browns changed their name to Ravens when they moved to Baltimore. The Baltimore Browns just sounds funny. I don't know if there are a lot of Cardinals in Arizona but they really should come up with their own name and give the bird name back to the St. Louis team (the "Rams"). Same with the LA Lakers (from Minnesota, the land of lakes). How many lakes are there really in LA?

I don't know .... maybe they didn't want to buy new helmets ..

Week 16 is upon us, and we got the Titans/Jaguars game out of the way... lol ...

The AFC has three divisions decided already: New England, Denver and Indy have won their divisions. The NFC is veeeeerrrry different, as all divisions are up for grabs and only the Cardinals have clinched a playoff spot.

Several important games this weekend:

PHI @ WAS (on Sat) - Philly really needs to win this and their next game to have a chance at the playoffs. DAL and two other teams are 10-4 while the Eagles are 9-5.

SD @ SF (on Sat) - The 49ers as far as I can tell are the first playoff team from 2013 to be eliminated from this year's tournament. SD must win both of their remaining games to have a shot at the playoffs.

BAL @ HOU - The Ravens are battling PIT and CIN for the AFC North, so they would LIKE to win this game and keep at least their wildcard spot if not win the division.

DET @ CHI - Look who is leading the NFC North? The Lions. However, they really really need to win both remaining games to keep their spot in the tournament. There is a chance that an NFC team at 10-6 won't make the playoffs. The Lions are 10-4 and of course should beat the Bears, but Det better keep their focus.

CLE @ CAR - The Panthers have a shot at their division but of course must win both remaining games.

ATL @ NO - The Saints have a chance to raise their record to 7-8 and win their division, even if they lose their next game and go 7-9. The Falcons need to win their last two and have help from NO and CAR.

GB @ TB - Same as Detroit, the Packers are 10-4 and don't want to be the 10-6 team that doesn't get to the playoffs. They should take care of bidness here.

KC @ PIT - Huge game for both teams. Chiefs are in the playoffs if they win this and the next. Steelers want to win their division and stay out of the 2 wildcard spots with 6 teams wanting them.

IND @ DAL - Cowboys' RB Murray has a broken hand and reports say he WILL play. Cowboys need this game to stay in 1st place in the division.

SEA @ AZ - The Cardinals keep winning, we could trot Jim out there as the QB and they'd win. However, the Seahawks defense is on a major roll. These teams are one game apart. A Cards win gives them the division, a Hawks win means they have a chance to win the division.

DEN @ CIN (Mon) - Cincy would like this win, and they have that tie on their record which is putting them a half-game ahead of PIT and BAL. All of this means that a Bengals win would put them in the driver's seat for the division title.

And DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME...

the Chargers downed the 49ers last night in overtime ... I still say Phillip Rivers is badly underrated

Jim
How 'bout that Philip Rivers?! He has the ability to forget about his bad plays, and implement that short-term memory. He made some bad bad plays and still managed to bring his team back, ON THE ROAD, and get a win in OT. Simply amazing. If the Chargers get in to the tournament, I'll be pulling for them.

Failures: PHI, BAL, NO, KC. Successes: SD, DET, CAR, ATL, PIT, DAL, SEA. Great weekend of football.
