My only concern is that some folks might not be following the progress or lack there-of, the production and not truly understand the possible risk involved in putting more money in. If they were a little more candid I would have no problems with the email. And I'm sure the email went to the folks that had higher deposits in as well trying to entice them to move up to.

I have not played leap-frog for years, and don't want to start now---lol

And which part of NON-REFUNDABLE would they not understand ????????????

Guys,

It doesn't matter what the sales tactic was. The fine print was exactly the same and you pulled the trigger.

If that fine print had not been provided, and the "seller" never produced a product, it would be a different story entirely.
Almost every "great" deal that's ever offered to us has has an expiration date to entice and inspire us to "take advantage" of it.
Sat TV, Car Companies and Dealers, Sears, Wal-mart, you name it, have used this tactic for generations.
Remember the furniture dealers that used to have "going out of business sales" every week or two for years?
It's something that I would have thought most Americans had become very familiar with and used to by now.

Regardless of how I may feel about EM's recent track record...
I can't give any credence to anyone trying to shift the ultimate responsibility for going 'all-in' onto anyone else but themselves.

somewhere deep underground in the NE US
I have to agree with Past Fanatic, I too was perfectly willing to 'phase in' my deposit money, based on observable progress. As a result, I am staying right where I am, and if there was an option to 'downgrade' my investment, I would probably take it at this point. I still support the concept enough to put some money on the line, since I believe someone, somewhere will eventually pull this off.
I support time travel too, but I am not putting any money down at this point!
Investment support is based on observable action, it is no surprise that Elio picked up many reservations while progress was being displayed. It is also no surprise that the investments have decreased since observable progress has been less obvious.
While things 'may' be happening behind the scenes, this is not observable progress, and will not sway the general market to make any investment moves.
On the upside, the changing of the necessary laws on autocycles will smooth the way for someone else to do it if Paul cannot pull it off.

Yes, at this point, I would choose the downgrade route too.
I wish I could choose the Walk-away-and-forget-about-it route. If it happens it happens. I hate being out a thousand bucks, but that was the risk I incurred. The tough part is the waiting. I just wish I could ignore it all until the 'choose your options' email.

I'll be working or at the river [Meramec] playing in the kayaks once the weather settles down a bit (kayak + thunderstorm = Scary sh*t!). Soooo glad winter's over.
As for the 1k? It's water under the bridge, and I don't even think about it until someone brings it up. Not on a fixed income like some of my retired coworker friends and some of the folks on the forum, so replacing the 1k was not an issue.

Like Tom Petty says, "The waiting is the hardest part...", so I plan to keep myself busy (the wife and her plans for the yard will make sure of it) with other stuff.

WE are not the "trigger".
We are more like the (spent) cartridge.

Right. You're not the trigger. I said, "The fine print was exactly the same and you pulled the trigger."
Saying that you're (WE?) more like the (spent) cartridge still implies that you've had something done to you.
"Blind Faith" ... indeed ... (thanks for the confirmation).
Hardly. Thumb back through some of my recent posts.
The avatar? It's part tongue in cheek, part nastalgia.
Ironically, they did the original of what's in my sig line.
I'm assuming that you already knew that though.

I'm just as comfortable with:
Concrete Blonde doing "Everybody Knows".
Or Chris Rea's "The Road To Hell".
I relate to all three.

But with this issue, it doesn't make any difference.
I took responsibility with the click of my mouse.
There was no having to "man up" afterward.

It's kind of funny.... 40,000 reservations will take (let me do some quick math)

5,000 in the first month at 250 built per shift
10,000 in the second month at 500 per shift
20,000 in the third month running two 500 shifts (as per what they are planning for the ramp up)
5,000 in the first week of the 4th month...

Total after 3 months and 1 week is .... 40,000

So, if you want to go in more than $100, all you are gaining is about 3 months and 1 week. So, if you can wait that long, you may as well let your $100 ride. Other than saving those 3 months, the ONLY benefit to upgrading to $1,000 and taking a chance with $900 more is that you'll get $450 off the final price of your Elio (the bonus) AND you'll be helping Elio out by loaning them that $900 till production of your vehicle.

So, upping a reservation merely to "move up in line" doesn't make a lot of sense. Upping your reservation to save another $450 makes sense if you are willing to gamble that $900. Upping your reservation because you feel it will help make Elio more attractive to potential investors and give them a little more operating money, that makes sense. Well, to me it does.

I would put the same $100 refundable down. I'm a supporter, but not a gamblin man.

The lastest email asking reservationists for even more money targets the weak willed or the uninformed dreamers that can't afford additional risk or loss that results in a small % of funding actually needed for production, yet alot of potential money for other stuff.

I don't think it's a feel good signal to be sending hopeful reservationists questioning whether or not EM is on target to the 2016 production date with pending funding issues. It seems like a last ditch effort to squeeze as much money out of reservationists as possible.

True. Keep in mind though that Elio has "offered" that upgrade since the very beginning. It isn't a new topic, really.
