Elio Motors Momentum v138

m1.jpg

One of this week's Momentum topics was inspired by a common question. As the the design of the Elio can be deceiving, the question “Will I fit” is frequently posited.

Measurements, Gas Prices, and Autonomous Driving

Interior Measurements

The design of the Elio can be deceiving. As our vehicle is half the width of the average car, many wonder and speculate if they can fit comfortably in the Elio. Thus, the question “Will I fit” is frequently posited. The answer, for the vast majority of the population, is yes. The Elio was designed to fit the “95 percentile male” which is a six foot one, 230-pound male. For reference, here are the interior measurements of the Elio:

Headroom: Driver 39.8 Passenger 36.4 in

Seat width: Driver 20.6 Passenger 25.3 in

Interior Shoulder Width: 26.8 in

Front seat Legroom: 42.7 in

Rear seat Legroom: 33.1 in

On the flip side, shorter drivers have wondered if they will also fit comfortably in the Elio. The answer is again, yes. The measurement from the ground to the front seat is approximately 16 inches. The front seat is a 6-way adjustable seat, allowing for drivers of all heights and heft to fit comfortably.

Gas Prices on the Rise

While Americans have enjoyed a respite at the gas pump for years, the Houston Chronicle reports that “Gasoline prices rose to their highest levels since 2015, following the recent climb in crude oil prices… The increasing fuel costs come as U.S. oil prices are hovering above $64 a barrel Monday morning.” Even as gas prices and their rise remain modest, the Elio provides a viable insurance policy against the proven volatility of oil prices. As we have seen in the last decade, high gas prices can quickly take a major toll on the average American and the economy. At up to 84 miles per gallon on the highway, the Elio can protect household budgets against the possible surge in gasoline prices.

The Future of Self-Driving Vehicles

For the last few years, the concept and execution of autonomous driving has been a popular topic in the automotive industry. The idea has been titillating and polarizing, and it seems that the government will soon weigh in. According to Reuters, “the plans to unveil revised self-driving car guidelines this summer as the government sets out to rewrite regulations that pose legal barriers to robot vehicles, U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said on Sunday.” According to the Transportation Secretary, “The technology is there, the question is how do we regulate it, how do we continue to promote innovation but also safeguard safety.” The decisions the Department of Transportation will likely set the course for autonomous driving.

The English language is interesting. In the current Momentum, Elio uses phrases like "the Elio provides" and "the Elio can". The use of these words would imply that the Elio is available. The appropriate words would have been "could" and "will". Perhaps they are just trying to put a positive spin on their situation and are trying to be optimistic? No real information in this Momentum that hasn't been said in other Momentums that tells about Elios progress. Nothing new financially. Nothing new technically. Nothing new with suppliers. Not even any new options. Where was the E1c during the Detroit auto show? No new tour events. They need to be doing something other than rehashing what we already know.

This is an interesting question. The usual response on the boards is that these blogs are not for us Elio faithful who already know this information, but for newcomers. But since Elio has not been out touring or advertising for a year are there any newcomers to be informed? Seems like the only purpose of the blogs these days are for a heartbeat.

"Newcomers' deserve to know everything we know, or do not know. Maurtis, I know you're not advocating not letting them know, I'm just saying if Elio Motors is still taking reservations, interested people deserve to readily know what is going on. Present tense is misleading, past tense may be accurate, and future tense is reserved under "forward looking statements."

A problem with Elio's reservation counter is that they dropped the ball and stopped counting. From a psychological viewpoint, it makes a person feel like they are part of something if that something has positive feedback. When the counter was working, most of us checked on it to see if and how much it went up. As it went up we kept rooting for it to go higher. But then when they reached the goal of 65,000, they basically stopped counting. So now we have no feedback as to if we are the only ones interested or not. They should have set a new goal and continued to satisfy our need to know. So our only way to determine newbies is if they find this blog and announce it.

Don't want to contradict what would certainly make us all feel better about ELIO's outcome, but nothing more besides Momentum's & Friday Blogs should be expected until April. No Q3 or annual reports, shows, popups etc... Why?... despite what is said $545,000 in unconstitutional penalties matter to accredited investors & VC's that are part of the NASDAQ raise. This should & will be thrown out by the district court at the end of March. In any case, there is nothing to take, not the VC money! No way!!! Its unprecedented, the length of time this raise taken...and that is why. Everything else would be illogical from an investor's viewpoint...most of these professional investors got there by worrying about $100,000 here & there. Sorry, but that's all there is to it. No one from Louisiana is taking over half a million $$$$$$$ off the top of the $100,000,000+ raise.

Sailor Dog, With all due respect, I do not believe a $ 550,000 possible adverse judgment has anything to do with VC's thinking. It's noise in the big spectrum, the 'price of doing business' if most other things were healthy. They didn't get to be big players by getting distracted by less than .2 percent of what's needed. It's a big 'red herring' for us as well.

I do think it might matter especially since there are other penalties that would equal 20%+ of the raise. I also believe the Atvm loan guarantee is still out there as well as federal autocycle legislation. Wonder if several of these unknowns will be known by 4/1 or that the VCs suspect will be known?

I don't see how this $550K penalty that most likely will not happen is holding up the $530M that Elio needs. On the other hand there is good indicators that the complete funding will be planned to come through in April.
