Maybe this type of headrest would be good for the driver's seat. At least the person in the back might be able to take a peek around their head to see what's up front.

It will be interesting to see what a few hours in the back seat of an Elio is like. I’m not claustrophobic and used to fly often (about 3X /week, and sometimes a very long time) for work and always liked window seats only because my big head could rest against the bulkhead, tho my legs would have fit better in the aisle. Without completely focusing on maybe a laptop I don’t see any real parallels between the Elio back seat and an airplane. Of course you can beg the driver to stop and let you out for a while but would have difficulty persuading a pilot to do the same... on a plane you can walk around some and look at rare and fleetingly attractive flight attendants.

Considering there are many people with mild fears and phobias: many simply cannot cross bridges, many can’t endure an MRI, i think backseating in an Elio will be the topic on quite a few message boards, if we ever get that far....in the front with a door, windshield, and big roll down windows it will be cool, like flying in a Citabria, in the back, not so much.

Happy Friday Elio’ers! Is it just us or did the last two weeks seem to fly by? The closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics will take place on Sunday. The US may not have piled up the medals like we have in the past, but we’re still tremendously proud of all our Olympic athletes! For any night owls out there, the US Men’s team plays Sweden in the Curling gold medal match at 1:25 AM eastern tonight. Who would have thought curling would be so popular all of the sudden? Go USA!

In case you missed the Momentum on Wednesday, we covered some interesting industry news. One portion in particular, about electric vehicles, seemed to have been of interest to many Elio Motors supporters and gung-ho proponents of alternative energy. We highlighted the fact that while electric vehicles have generated a remarkable amount of buzz, the technology is not quite there yet. We received many inquiries asking variations of these two questions: why is the first model of the Elio gasoline powered and will future models run on alternative energy? Today, we’ll answer these two great questions.

Why is the first iteration of the Elio gas powered?

Our aim has always been to produce a vehicle with an unbeatable value proposition. While electric vehicles have made major strides in recent years, they are still considerably more expensive on average than gasoline powered vehicles. The range of electric vehicles is going up and the cost of the technology is going down, but an electric powertrain does not currently meet our cost/value requirements. The price of even the least expensive electric vehicles is more than 3 times that of an Elio!

Additionally, we have designed the Elio to be a viable option for nearly everyone. Currently, the existing electric infrastructure limits the plausibility of owning an electric vehicle for folks in rural areas. As a gasoline powered vehicle, the Elio offers limitless mobility to drivers in the most remote locations.

Is an electric/water/vapor/sun/wind powered Elio a possibility in the future?

In a word, absolutely. We think that the configuration and engineering for the Elio makes for an exciting platform for alternative power sources. Even as we are focused on the present and bringing the gasoline-powered Elio to production, we will always be simultaneously looking to the future and into different ways we can improve our vehicle. As technologies continue to improve and costs continue to drop, the notion of an alternative Elio powertrain is absolutely a possibility.

Thanks for your support and have a golden weekend!

Ok, first gasoline/ICE, then Electric, then maybe water vapor/sun/wind. Why not big springy tires for the Lunar surface while we’re at it?

This is beyond belief! Maybe first we can see or hear something about the IAV engine? Any engine? Is this the April Fools edition, leaked early?

Come on Paul, come clean, get it off your chest. It’s over, right? Put it out of its misery.

Its only been 154 weeks since the video, don't rush them. Takes time to process and release results., could have a slow computer.

No need to get depressed on the wait. If 2019 turns out we'll all forget the wait. I always figure the worse then try to accept the possibility. I'm ok if this thing fails. Better to be anied uped than never in. Seems to me that all the experts make their reputations from being negative and predicting the worse. LOL
The original spirit of this thread started with the wonder lust of hitting the open road. Americans are notorious for traveling no matter how, from Motorcycles to RVs. I still have my old Curtis Robin 1.5 hp powered recumbent bicycle. Don't use it anymore none the less I followed the story of an old coot on his motorized bike page where he chronicled he cross country adventures. He'd discovered this mode of travel when he could not longer afford an auto on his meager SS pension plus his aging condition. Stuffing a few rolled $20 bills into his handle bars he be off and running. From Alabama just east of Birmingham to Denver Colorado was his first trek. Traveling through all the Indian reservations in Oklahoma had a particularly interesting run in with the Apaches tribe there. Yes he claimed that he had actually been captured by them. Not out of anger but rather they loved him so much they did not want him to leave. LOL He died some 5 years ago but his adventures were where the rubber meet the road and just plain down to earth fun. So there's more than one way to hit the road.
