Gas only, this is not a hybrid. Selling price is estimated at $600. Unfortunately, it looks like it'll only be sold in Germany and Austria.

The point is .... if VW can produce a small vehicle similar to the Elio and net 258mpg  why is Elio having problems attaining 84?

And - not manufactured? Direct comparison to the Elio at this point.

Is this a different car?

The diesel engine is an ultra-compact 800c, and sits directly behind the cabin along with a surprisingly spacious compartment for luggage. A 27hp electric engine complements the diesel, and charges fully in 90-140 minutes.

If they can attain 258mpg, why is there a problem netting 84?? I may have to jump ship .....
It's hybrid, 2 cylinder diesel, 1750lbs, narrow tires. It's too bad Elio could not have searched the world for a 2 or 3 cylinder engine already in production and licensed the rights to build the engine. Could have been far cheaper than having engine developed. Deal with a manufacture that does not have any ties to US. Shouldn't be hard, plenty of developing nations have manufactures with engines that would have worked.

No, it's not a hybrid. The XL1 is a hybrid, different car.
