.... and don't forget the Driver weighs SOMETHING + baggage... so 1200 + say 150lbs or more
That would have to be a pretty amazing sportbike.... the stock BMW 1000rr is ~ 460lbs + Rider (150) + gear (20ish) and 170hp so 3.70 lbs / HP
Great information It is certainly in a place I can be comfortable with.I was curious how the Elio's power to weight ratio stacks up against other small cars, so I found specs on several cars and got the following numbers. I'm assuming the Elio is 55HP and 1200lb curb weight. All are base models/engines.
Tata Nano (world's cheapest car): .0285 HP/lb
Chevy Spark: .0370
Smart Fortwo: .0387
Nissan Versa Note: .0452
Elio: .0458
Toyota Corolla: .0471
My 2002 4 cylinder Ranger:
Empty: 135hp/2988lb = 0.045 hp/lb
While pulling my pop-up camper (est): 135hp/5000lb = 0.027
Fully loaded semi:
400-500hp/80000lbs = 0.005-0.006 hp/lb
If your going to compare a semi you may want to compare torque instead of horsepower.

My current commuter is a Mazda Miata. It's approximately 20.8 lbs per HP. Definitely not fast, but still very fun to drive. I think where the Elio lacks in power it will make up in handling.Elio yields 21.82lbs/hp (1200lbs/55hp). Not a very impressive number, but not bad considering the class.
I agree with you. I just thought it would be more appropriate sense torque is what gets the mass moving.A torque comparison would likely help the Elio even more as most small cars have lower torque numbers than HP numbers while the Elio is supposed to be rated at 55 for both.
