I'd say the same about having lights on the fenders facing rearward. I know some think it'll save them for when someone tries to pass them within a foot or two of the main cabin but they won't. What they WILL do is be a bouncing night-vision destroying distraction. You really don't want to have to see those lights every time you drive your Elio at night. I'm really glad Ford put the mirror lights in a spot where the driver can't see them. I wonder if they did research before doing that... I'm betting they did.You can't use those on the street legally; they're considered a distraction; just like flashing lights under the car.
That's for WA state, I can't say that it's legal or illegal everywhere, but check your local laws on this subject.
Plus those TireFlys would be good from the side; not so much from the front.
Reflector tape can work, but driving lights would be bouncing all over the place.
