I suggest a new category
5k all in with 3k incentives
Now you'd have to get 5 folks 1k all in to match the upfront money, and EM would only have t increase the incentive by $500.00 (for the 5k all in)

With the 5k all in i (3k total compared to the 2.5k incentives ), thus getting EM them more upfront money faster.
The downside, although there might be more $ the reservation number will be somewhat skewed
O K and to sweeten the pot- your choice anywhere on line (some folks might not want one of the first few thousand)- AND it goes without saying, but I will, a limited special edition shirt! (no sticker) -gotta cut costs somewhere!!

If this was a year ago and ELIO offered a $5000 all in deal I would have been all over it. The view today is a lot different.

Yes the deposit/reservation will be 5k (with the 1k all in, would require an additional 4k from us), and any others to get to 5k, i.e. $250 all in would have to add $4,750, so that this level would all be 5k all in (w.3k incentive)

This will enable EM to receive more cash up front, and perhaps keep the company from going public, AND hasten my delivery date!

It will allow those who would/might buy EM shares (if they went public) to "invest"additional funding, and receive 3k incentive on their 5k--math wasn't my strong suite, but the return on this "investment" is "a lot" lol

Smitty901- last year you would have made a poor choice as compared to today- today we got the plant, 40k folks w/down payments, the (one) engine, and a lot more name recognition than last year. In my opinion this year seems to be a lot less risk than a year ago.

I realize there are many for whom risking this amount of money is impossible. It's been a reach for many. But for some of us this might be both a selfish pursuit (added incentives, choice of delivery) and at the same time increasing our support for this project.

Like they say read carefully before you invest- AND on the other side, IF it does come to pass, you will own an E for 5k, a few accessories, and OTD for 8k!!!

yep! $6800+ delivery ($500+/-), tax 6%+/- 480 + $220.00 accessories= $8000.00, for which you have only the $5,000 upfront total cost to you.

To hit send on 5K is no big deal. But at this point ELIO is not being forth coming enough on where they really are. I am willing to take a risk with them.
Their failure to display the engine on time, then not being really up front about what happen erodes trust. If ELIO wants others to take the risk then they need to be more up front about things. It works both ways. At this point we still have no real ideas when ELIO production will even be at a point they start getting plant lines ready.
I would be more will to hand ELIO cash if he just stood up and said we are broke no funding coming and pass the hat.

Just to be clear -- our money is currently not an investment. It's a deposit on a purchase of hardware. No stock, no ownership in the company, not even a loan to the company ... it's just a non-refundable deposit on something we hope will be built. For making the deposit early, we get a discounted price.

An investment involves some level of ownership in the company. Different critter, different laws, different regulations, and different levels of sanity required.

Calling our deposits an investment -- though we may be heavily invested emotionally, and the folks on this forum certainly are -- is extremely sloppy speaking, and if Elio uses the term they could be in some legal trouble.
