My guess is with their focus on MPG the throttle is very likely to be by-wire so they should have full throttle control to assist the AMT in shifting.
That's my speculation too, but it's going to take more than speculation to instill confidence. Hopefully we can test drive the manual and the AMT during the test drive tour.

Me too. I hope the IAV engine is going to be fly by wire throttle and they can incorporate better up shift controls. If I have to release the throttle to up shift every time then the AMT will be a no go for me.

I'm pretty sure Jerome said it was wire......as for the AMT only word to date is Aisin but
which one, who knows? :)

I don't know if this has already been shared but I keep reading that the automatic has a target of $250 or less but they're aiming to make it standard as well as the manual so people don't have to feel stuck with paying way more. It seems like Paul Elio just wants to produce a great car for the middle and lower class at a ridiculously low cost.

If they make the AMT standard they will have met the needs for both sets of people.

I thought I had read that they were thinking about making an AMT only but would also have a way to make it manual as well which could make.it simpler to manufacture the two. But, I don't know where I read that and may just be confirming someone else's rumor. So, file this in the barely-credible file.

In OKC Jerome said to several of us, they are trying to keep the AMT under $1000. I am betting it will be at least $800 or more. Most small cars automatics run at least $700-$800 retail. The cost might be $400-$500, but the automobile experts on the board of directors are going to make money on the options because the margins are very tight on the manufacturing side. Figure about $9000 for a elio with auto and cruise PLUS your local fees. Remember EM has said they are within $300 of $6800, so what are they taking OUT to get there? Figure about $7000 plus $800 for the auto, $200-300 for cruise and destination of $795 (jeromes figures not mine), then you have dealer prep. $150 (they need to be cleaned up and checked out before delivery), and it totals $9000.
That $9000 is just about what the OKC trip people were told if all the figures were added up. A manual with cruise would be $800 less (est). or $8200 or so. I budgeted $10,000 because I want tinted glass and maybe another goodie option. I sold cars for over ten years and can tell a lot of you folks are going to be surprised at the final price but remember, $6800 is the BASE price advertised..plus options, delivery. prep, and state and local fees.

If there are no dealers, how can there be dealer's prep. That is part of the traditional dealership gravy train. Destination can't be helped because the vehicles have to be transported. The salesrooms are just that, salesrooms. Read EM Store information and then think outside the box you have worked in all or most of your life. Paul Elio wants to break some of those traditions and as a woman, I support his plans 100%. I am sick and tired of being taken advantage of by the auto industry and dealership traditions of padding prices in general and then upping them if the buyer is a woman. There will also be no MSRP. There will be a base price but it is not suggested, it is the same for every buyer and cannot be changed. That is why Elio's staff will be certified, trained and salaried. No bennies for cheating the customer. Thank you Paul Elio! :-) Z

Who is on the board of directors zelio? About a dozen x-car people that's who. There will be a MSRP or how will you know the base price plus the options (automatic (under a thousand said Jerome) and the delivery charge of $750 (confirmed) and the dealer prep is because have you seen a car that has just been delivered 1000 miles by a truck in the middle of summer or winter? The elio has to be checked out, washed, cleaned and gassed.
Salesmen have to take you on test drives, process the work order for you and what you want for options, to do a credit report on you, fiancé managers will have to send your purchase order to several banks and get the interest and monthly payment, and tell you to take it or good-by and NEXT.!, and yes they are all trained by EM.
It is a process and Mr. Elio is not in this business to just barely skim by while paying 1500 employees, building 60 stores, all that advertising because he has to sell at least 200,000 a year to just make a little money. (gosh 1500 employees at $20 an hour including benefits is what zelio? $20 x 8 is $160 a day and that is for one employee. $160 x 1500 is $240,000 a day. If EM makes 1500 on each one, do the math. it's 160 a day just to meet payroll of the plant. Now add in the stores, the board and what do you have? Maybe 200 to break even.
That's why you see the 250,000 a year figure.
Hope this helps, I sold over 1300 cars and trucks when I sold cars so I have a good idea what happens. I don't think you can take the salesperson out of the system..someone has to do the work. just saying.

MSRP:
Function
  • MSRP is usually printed on a retail box or on an item's price tag, such as on new cars. This gives the retailer and the consumer an idea of the value of an item in a negotiable environment. At other times, the MSRP is used to imply savings where a genuine discount may not exist. For example, an item might be priced as "MSRP: $200. Our price: $75." Although it is unlikely any retailer is actually attempting to sell the item for 200 dollars, this gives the appearance that the price listed is a bargain.

Elio Store:
The Elio retail experience won’t follow the crowd, but it’s certain to attract one. Think “genius-bar” as opposed to in-your-face plaid jacket high pressure. For starters our future Retail Centers will be staffed and operated by Elio-trained certified specialists –people you can trust to know your Elio inside and out. Plus, everyone will get the same great price, which will eliminate the old-school haggling element found in traditional dealerships.

We’ll also offer plenty of custom options just in case you want to infuse your Elio with some extra personality. We can’t wait to see what you might have in mind.

I feel fairly certain your experience as a car salesman would not be a good reference for a job with Elio. At least not if your whole mind set is that you are going to be bargaining with the customer. You cannot take the sales person out of the system but you can take the bargaining and commission out of the system. I don't have to be a board member to understand Paul Elio is offering us a better system and I am very grateful to him for doing so. Thank you Paul Elio. :) Z
