New driving video for the P5. What got me was "Multi-Mode Manual Transmission from Aisin". Could it be that ALL Elios will ship with just the AMT, rather than building two types? Or am I reading too much into this video?

I thought they were calling those MMT (Multi-Mode Manual Transmission)?
You can put them in D (Drive) or put it in M and use the + or - for upshift or downshift.

That Link is confusing. M- is down shifting, but they say it goes from 1-6.
M+ is up shifting, but it says it goes from 6-1?
(or either I'm really tired)

If they go with a "one-size fits all" transmission, then that might significantly reduce complexity for their marshaling centers. They'd only need 7 Elios on hand at any given moment.

Yes it would! The question is, would it raise the "base cost" to produce them? Since the AMT is basically a manual trans with the shift mechanisms added, I think it would only make it more difficult to achieve the $6800 "goal." If they keep the amt as an "add-on" or "upgrade" they can reasonably expect to charge more.

I would rather have a manual manual manual transmission. Less costly to maintain, can be push started and more fun to drive. Remember it is a motor cycle!

I agree with what you think of a manual manual, but I feel this type of auto might be fun to drive as well. For the past 23 years I been driving a "real" auto that I don't have any control of what gear its in, if its in "D". Will be a real treat to have some input if I so desire. Also, seems just using the gas peddle can give you some control of when it changes gears too. Should be a real "hoot". Fact it will shift more rougher, don't bother me much, as long as it don't hurt the tranny or reduce its life. Hopefully the electronic clutch, won't be a weak spot in the system.

I have a semi automatic transmission in my Can Am Spyder and it is fun to drive having to up shift and never backing off the gas. Faster than anything I have driven. It is more costly to maintain and can't be push started. The Elio is not a speed demon and for me the manual is the best option.

Well on the Can Am when you change oil, you need an oil filter and a transmission filter. The Can Am dealer charges nearly 300.00 for this service. I am able to get it jacked up and cut away an access hole and do it myself. Still costs me 100.00 for materials and a couple hours time. I really like the paddle shift and it is 100 hp so it is fast. I do not want the extra expense on the Elio and I want to be able to push start it.
