R.Q.Riley has the XR3 that one build oneself. It has a futuristic look to it. It is a hybrid.

Would it costs less when one builds it oneself?

The biggest issues most three wheeled vehicle designs have is that they don't look like a normal "car". Either they have no roof to speak of or they use an aircraft canopies or gull wing doors. That is their downfall. Nobody wants to crawl up and over to get into them. Elio changed that paradigm by using a "normal" windshield and a side opening door. That alone is why their vehicle has a chance. It is appealing to a broader market.

The XR3 isn't a bad idea, but was poorly executed. The overall styling is dated, the canopy is terrible, the dash is childish and the body lines in the back are both unnecessary and an eyesore. A mix of curved front and harsh straight lines in the back that clash. Given a few hours time, the general design could be greatly enhanced to work as a marketable side-by side vehicle.

I guess it would depend what caused the wet seat. :p

I guess the design can be modified. Since it is made from plans, one could build it to have doors instead of a lifting canopy?

I like the looks of the vehicle but you have oversimplifies things when you say you put it together, This is really a YOU BUILD IT..from the frame up including the body, 500-600 hours and you will be purchasing a diesel motor, transmission, batteries and the electrical system for recharging. Riley merely provides the plans.
