To me, the most significant new bit of information, other than the possibility of the "final prototype" being shown at SEMA, is that the paint is going to be sprayed on, not impregnated or baked in. This is sharply different that what we've understood to this point -- at least i THINK that's the case.

Also, when asked what keeps him up at night, Paul said "keeping all the balls in the air" so that key details don't drop out. Not one word about money. (Sorry; tonyspumoni posted about that about one minute before I got this up).

Do you suppose that America will be in-SEMA-nated with the Elio in a week or so?

I won't be surprised if they have an "unveiling" of the production model as mentioned by this discussion. However, I do know you won't see it in Jacksonville. The plan has been to not tour the P5 but to use it for production purposes - since I am not a car person I can't say for sure what those purposes are but they may even be taking it apart and reassembling it in production mode. At least that is my not the least bit humble opinion. :) Z
Z, I thought the 25 model run was going to include a few for touring and the rest for various kinds of testing.

The "final iteration" thing got to me, too -- they had initially decided NOT to show the P5 (it was to be made for manufacturing measurements only, according to Jerry Vassallo), but they're apparently showing SOMETHING new at SEMA. Now I'm all excited -- P5 or actual test vehicle (G1's "E" class). Bottom line: GOOD THINIGS ARE HAPPENING WITH ELIO!

Maybe it has something to do with the door falling off the p4

Actually the Elio has never been planned for impregnated paint. I don't know the exact procedure but that was definitely not it. :-) Z

I think that may be true eventually. But Paul even mentioned in the Town Hall Teleconference that there would be no P5 and the next build would be the production model and it would be used for testing assembling procedures or something to that effect. :-) Z

when did that happen? Of course, after X thousands of operations, I can see it having a problem or two.
I understand they were having trouble with the door in Portland. Someone said they had to keep tightening the screws/bolts. I don't know if it actually fell off at some point or not. :-) Z

I posted this on the "P5" thread, but it seems everyone ran over here.
So, I'll follow suit and post it here.

I honestly think there's some miscommunication going on here.

Titus did not say, "P5".
He didn't say "new" either.
He said, "...the final production iteration of the Elio."
And later said, "...final production prototype iteration..."
PE was not yet "on the air" and may not have even heard Titus' first comment.
If he did, he may have wisely let a minor technicality slide for the sake of a totally positive interview.
In addition to that, it's been said that an Elio rep has stated that there will be no P5.
Only the 25 or so "E" series pre-production cars for testing, tooling for production, and tours.
I've been interpreting that to mean that the P4 is already the "final production prototype iteration" for a while now.

PE said,
"...motor should be on dyno spinning in about... ah, by Nov. 15th."
"So it's a 55 horsepower motor, so... we actually... it's a .9 liter, we started out at 1 liter.
We had to downsize a little bit to... ah... get the mileage.
Because the vehicle is so darn light and slippery... Um... We couldn't get the torque curve where we wanted it to achieve the mileage."

"We had to downsize... to... ah... get the mileage".
I'm not taking that to mean that they've run the engine in a "final production prototype iteration" mileage test and officially got the 84mpg.

@ 47:22, Titus says, "But on Halloween day, on Friday Elio's gonna be here.
They'll have their final production prototype iteration here..."

***At that point, Spencer yells, "The P4!"***

Titus does not correct him.

So, like I suspected before I even watched the video, It may just be another Journalistic false alarm.
It very well may be just the good old P4.
