I think EM has the ability to produce a viable and safe product, but needs tangible assets/funding to pull it off.

Lichter, Lease, Equipment, SEC
monies all lend cred. I agree EM
has the 'ability' but they still have
to put proof to the pudding.... build
& test it & their good to go......

when using the term "the government"- these days getting anything to function/approved in a timely fashion is a stretch !
It's easy to point to loan failures ( a drop in the bucket compared to successes) by a politician to distance themselves from what might be considered "risky".
please note:
this is not a political statement aimed specifically at any party, person or thing. I am not a politician, nor do I play one on Television, feel free to pull it off the board

I think that the government will not consider it a safe product until the car has a detachable roof. One passenger burning to death because the driver is dead , unconscious, or unable to open the door, will be the end of Elio
What the heck are you talking about? You are trying to make something out of the single door? No one else has mentioned this as a water or fire incident issue.
Are you really worried about this? Nobody else is. Fact is, there are two opening hatches, one a door, and two roll down windows.
There is no more vulnerability that any other vehicle. An inconvenience at worst.
If this was your own issue, I have no problem with that, but you inferred a wider issue crossing over government requirements. There IS no such requirement. The instance of water drowning hasn't killed other cars, and will not likely end this one either. They will suggest putting a window-breaking tool in the car, end of story.

Over 700 HMV Freeways with the same openings, (and Corbin Sparrow), and not one controversy over this since the 80's. Yes they didn't like the limitation, but never a safety incident. I think the evidence doesn't support your position.

With over $100m in realistic
reservations + misc equip, etc.
I don't think assets per se are
the ATVM issue. Elio must
prove the ability to produce
a viable & safe product.........
Right now, Elio's assets are terrific and their cash flow is terrible. How important is that to DOE? Who the heck knows.

I have to admit, the thought has crossed my mind. A very real question I have is what happens if there is a wreck, the driver is unconscious, and the passenger in the rear is alert and trying to get out? From the pictures I've seen of the Elio, it doesn't look like it's really possible to get out of the back seat if someone is sitting in the front. Crawling over them to get out of the window is not likely at all unless you're 7 years old. So I think this is a fair question. What is the passenger to do if the driver is incapacitated? Or if the car is rolled over on its "door" side? The person in the rear is going to be screwed if the driver can't break the window and get out.

Yes, I'm simply hackled about the idea of government regulation or approval. I agree , as I also would like doors on both sides for both driver and passenger(4 doors). Or at least just another door for the passenger on the opposite side. But this has no impact to gov regulations or loan approvals etc.

For the passenger emergency exist, I think an inside latch for the rear might be a cost effective fix.

I have never felt this was a 2 passenger vehicle. I call it (under my breath) a 1.5, passenger after-thought.

Some number of people who get this for vacation driving, replacing motorcycles are going to get two, and totally skip the trailers and other storage solutions. Headsets or bluetooth, fix the conversational requirements.

So what are the alternatives if the ATVM loan does not come through? Crowdfunding and 506(c) are not making up the $240 million needed. Paul Elio has said they have multiple paths. I do not know if each of these paths provide the remainder of the $240 million needed, or if each of these paths provide only a portion. I can think of two options Paul Eli may take.

Option 1: Paul Elio has refused the financing he needs because the investors wanted too much control. I believe the opposite is true. Paul Elio wants too much control. Investors will not hand over many millions of dollars to someone without having any control in the company. Paul Elio does not want others to share. They may overrule him on the elgin gauges, and probably would have. They may cause other changes he does not want. I am sure he has a list of the people wanting to invest large amounts of money but only if they share some of the control. As a last resort, Paul may grant this control to them in exchange for the money, thus finally obtaining all of the needed cash. http://www.elioowners.com/threads/funding-refused-by-paul-elio.6205/

Option 2: Go public with an IPO. At the Saint Francis University talk, Paul Elio was asked if he would go public. His response was “Only if I have to”. This is a another path he may exercise. Once again he would not have complete control but may do this as a last resort.

BTW Elio will be offering( of course an option)a sun roof and a moonroof, the structural members have been so designed, perhaps that will alleviate your concerns- if it really is a deal breaker, then perhaps your concerns might best be addressed with another type of transportation- 50 years on bikes - risk vs reward.
More people have and will die crashing on motorcycles then I ever could imagine sitting in the rear seat of an "&" with the driver incapacitated -seizure/heart attack -just don't try the passenger door to exit

A supplier summit is planned Aug. 13-14 in Detroit.
You would think Detroit would be a little anti-Elio since final assembly happens in another state. But most of the suppliers are in Detroit and all across the US.

So the current issue is what will be announced, if anything, after this summit. Here's the tickler source;

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story/news/2015/07/27/times-interviewing-paul-elio/30561561/

What we are hoping for ...
1) Description of the updated 'Funding Picture'. Frankly we want to know what's been enabled.
2) Accurate projection of the production schedule. Ok, will settle for a expectation and confidence level? Maybe, but we'll gripe about it.
3) Status of the P5 (, E1 or whatever ), expected completion etc.
4) Same as 3 for the E2-25
5) Status of engine testing and current specs.
6) Details about pilot production of engines, count, destination for use, etc. for the

anything else?
Thanks for the "TIMES " link....if Elio keeps on track like they are doing then the mid-2016 production guesstimate is certainly obtainable...especially, if we hear the government loan is approved and those funds are added to what he has now. I'll want to increase my " All-iN " Amount to the max if this comes to pass...money coming in to fund his Elio on that scale will attract a lot more cash when people know for sure the production day is settled and a start up workforce is in place and they trial production runs are going smooth with the robotics and skilled workforce in place.....just sayin'
