http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2015/09/21/report-apples-electric-car-arriving-2019/72571316/

Apple is planning to sell an electric car in the 2019 time frame.
Although I am not a fan of Apple, I know that their products sell.
My first thought is that the millennials will likely be big buyers at the cost of legacy manufacturers. Think of Ford and GM as the industry equivalent of Nokia and Blackberry.

As for EM, it's a tough call. It will likely be in a different price range and a different demographic, but it still make take a chunk out of the EM market and since they have around $200 billion reserve, they can take on the dealerships and laws or simply make their own dealership network and put the rest out of business. (or simply sell them at Apple stores)

Just a few ideas. I would be interested in additional opinions.

2019 and the possibility of an Apple car is a long time out. I have more interest in the $15K Electra Meccanica Solo, Toyota i-Road, and the Arcimoto SRK Electric three wheelers. It's positive for the ultra efficient commuter market to have some compettion and choices for the various demographics.

Range is increasing while battery prices decrease. Major improvements by 2019. The Arcimoto SRK is being engineered with swappable battery packs.

I'm thinking a report of Apple producing an electric vehicle in 2019, means Apple might have a shot at producing them in 2021. At the earliest. That's just the way things go.
Apple has hired 600 people to work on the project (Titan) and have $60 Billion Cash Reserve. If they say 2019 it may be very doable.

Should Apple conclude that
an EV is a viable business
segment for them, I have no
doubt they can do it. But not
for $6,800. Historically Apple
is a high end price point &
not likely to seriously impact
EM in the near term..... :)

With Apple's track record, you probably won't be able to work on it yourself, will only be able to get it serviced at official Apple certified repair shops, and all parts will have proprietary interfaces requiring any aftermarket vendors to pay outrageous licensing fees in order to make compatible accessories.
