For example in California you can drive a motorcycle with a sidecar attached without a motorcycle endorsement. The skill set you need to do that safely is much different from driving a typical car or riding a conventional motorcycle. What makes sense and what is allowed are often very different. Happens when the folks that write the rules don't have a clue about the game.

That's why both Elio and Lit Motors legal teams need to help legislators draft changes to existing laws. Elio and Lit invented the new game of driving safe and eco-friendly enclosed motorcycles on our highways in the very near future.

I would like to clarify my statement about options. Mr. Vassilo did not say the factory would only be installing the transmissions, a representative in a blue Elio shirt told that to several of us. It does make sense because the cost of the factory having to have a dozen or so options stockpiled at the point of assembly cost money. As usual, Elio Motors is adjusting their business plan by the day trying to keep cost down. Remember an elio is coming out the door every 2.5 minutes. Here is my take on the sales showrooms. When you go into the showroom, a salesman will show you the vehicle, ask you if you want a test drive, and take you on that test drive sitting in the back seat. Now the prices are supposed to be non negotiable so the salesman will add up what you want and give you the non negotiable price..adding the options, and the color adding the destination charges and the dealer prep charges. If you say yes, then the financial situation comes up. You can write a check or He/she will take a credit app. have the finance manager run your credit and give you the numbers for the month payment if you decide to go that route. No dickering but time will be spent doing the above. No different than now except for the negotiation of the price. Your credit score will determine the payment interest rate and of course, Elio will have several financial institutions to chose from. I figure it will take an hour or two to get one Ordered. The finance manager will also talk to you about any extended warranties. If you want to "dicker", I bet the salesman will say "next". If you run the numbers, you have 60 stores open 7 days a week. 250,000 a year /60 stores, and you get over 4100 for each store a year. divide that by 350 days and you get 12 a day for each store. yes folks, it does take time. What do you folks think about my sales senario? I think I am pretty close.

Prep 12 a day and only 5 employees and 8 hours plus take 12 orders a day. JMO. Put I think the options should be done at the factory. It's called JIT, Just In Time warehousing, you do not stock items, if you average say 10 of a certain item a day, you arrange with the vendor to have 10 a day delivered.

I've never sold cars but 12 a day seems very high to me.. Options installed at the factory makes sense to me and if later someone decided to add something then the dealership could install that item.. Thinking the vast majority will want AMT and cruise control so that may be bundled as well..

Only there are no dealers.......so no dealer prep please. Your Custom factory built Elio will roll off the assembly line and delivered to your regional Company Owned Elio Store ready for pickup. Also, Elio said they were contracting with an established national service chain so I assume that is where any future options would be installed and service work scheduled. I don't think you will see service bays at an Elio Store.

It is really early for anyone to speculate or even guess exactly what Elio plans to do regarding localized sales but my Guess is they will follow a Very similar program as did Tesla. Yes they do have a few stores but it is a (1) model display with option details and informative reps on site. Nothing more. To this day most all Tesla models are purchased via Website in a very simple format and they have done so very successfully. Go to the site and try for yourself. Seems to work pretty well for a car company selling a Very high end product (100k+) to a very high end market and I have not seen them mention any concerns with this process with the exception of keeping up with orders as they are flying off the shelf! Not an exact comparison but I don't recall ever being given the option to test drive a motorcycle at the local dealer and these are in the 8-30k range. It's my guess, assumption, no proof, opinion Elio will be keeping it Very simple for a long time.
It's not speculation. The Sales and Service Model that Elio is using is on their website and it sounds good. There are distribution centers that will get the Elio with your specified options back to the Elio Store within 24 hours after the order is placed. It seems there will be models to test drive.
