Road & Track got a chance to test drive the P5. So they livestreamed it on Facebook

Until the left fender fell off...

Well crap...

"This afternoon, Elio Motors was kind enough to bring a prototype of its three-wheeled car to Road & Track's New York City office for a test drive. It went great—right up until the left front fender fell off in the middle of Manhattan traffic."

You should check out the R&T article. They were very understanding, and explained that this kind of thing is known to happen with prototypes.

I wonder what this does for P5 appearances. They will have to get the fender repaired, or another one fabricated. Maybe they already have some spares they can pull from the E series builds.

I watched the video and the guys at R/T were very understanding. There was mention in the article that the fenders were not fastened like the final production so that they could be removed easily when putting the vehicle on display indoors. The R/T guys also had some positive comments about how it drove and the ride. They also got lots of attention! Something WE will all need to get used to.

Oh, drat! No windows in the P5? And, at 5:41 from the end, the R&T guy says Jerome told him they (Elio) were actually track testing the car earlier this week. So you bet they have some actual numbers to work from ... and lousy fit and finish to address!

Bad though it is, Jalopnik could have been much, much worse.

Ok, everyone start practicing the reasons why it happened:
1) It's a Prototype
2) Whoever put it on hadn't done it after they were doing some earlier tests
3) Terrorist took the bolts out to hide something and ran out of time
4) The test driver hit something before they started filming
5) Gremlins
6) It's a feature and we were testing it
7)

<I ran out of excuses>
