Just today, Honda announced an AT LEAST six month delay on a plant they are building in Thailand.

Also, due to production delays, BMW has an 11,000+ backorder for their i3.

If existing successful automotive companies can experience delays, well, think about starting from scratch.

BMW/Honda are not out looking for investors or asking customers for a thousand bucks a t shirt either..Now BMW dealers may be asking but I bet they are qualifying customers credit..Elio did not, In fact they bs people with a credit fuel card paying method which I have an email from them saying it's discontinued but their web site says differently..My neice filled out her reserve page but did not finalize it,left it in wish list but did not check out order.. Every day she either got an email or phone call coaching her to finalize..She is a young college student without a job.. Does BMW or Honda do that ? I gifted her the 1000 bucks !

Ps..Elio stated several times and still do claim they will sell 250,000 units a year .. They also estimated they would get over 200,000 reservations before going in to production..

I certainly did not hear a time frame for the 250K/yr and you can most assuredly believe that Paul didn't have year 1 in mind when that was said. I hadn't heard the reservations number but as of last Thursday 4/26 I was told that reservations would cease at 40,000.

I'm going back to 2008 thu 11 when he was seeking partners.. But even now in Elio's
web site he claims he can sell 250k units a year..You were probably told the 40k number in OkC by they same person I talked to..They will not tool up until they get 30,000 reservations..Why would they stop taking reservations at 40k?..I mean a sale is a sale.. Maybe they would stop giving the 500 buck bonus then but turn down a sale..humm ..Think about that, sales gimmick maybe..

I agree with you 3 Card - a sale is a sale. They would be remiss to turn down orders. Maybe the intent was that Elio would stop doing the 50% match once they hit 40,000 orders (I haven't seen that number anywhere but am using that for this example). That would show investors/vendors/suppliers that they had enough production to make it worth gearing up for. I really don't think a vendor would need to have 40,000 orders to gear up though. I'd think that building, say, 10,000 exhaust manifolds would make it worth gearing up for especially if that was just the start. I feel that once the ball gets rolling, it'll roll fast.
