Most plausible speculation is that StartEngine is gearing up for their publicity campaign to launch an Investor Referral Competition already announced via press release, of which the Grand Prize recipient stands to win themselves an Elio:

I think you're right, and what it tells me is that Elio is having trouble attracting the serious-level investors they're after. This is a gimmick, and it may work, but it's still a gimmick -- Elio stock meets your investment requirements, or it doesn't.

I wish they weren't doing this.

PS -- that free car had better not have an SIL lower than 14847!

Right, StartEngine gets a free sales force (us) to find investors (friends) to invest (through SE so they profit) and unless you're one of the top 3, you get nothing.
Kind of disappointing.

I received this email too, and while no content makes mention to Elio Motors, the Subject Line does start with "Elio Fans, ...".

Also noteworthy is the time stamp, with mine being received at exactly 8:00pm EST, after regular business hours for even folks on the West Coast.

I do wonder the same things that have been speculated regarding the question about selling, the risk of share dilution should more shares be made available on either the OTCQX or NYSE, and the legality of dropping a time bomb like this leading into the weekend should it actually involve legitimate IPO details that could materially impact present shareholders.

Even if we all submitted orders now to sell our shares, I'm positive they wouldn't be processed until close of trading on Monday. So we might as well watch the trading news and activity closely on Monday to see what develops.

I did see an uptick in ELIO trading activity yesterday, but that would have been prior to StartEngine's email stirring the pot.

It may be simply like the personalized mailers you get. They get the list from Elio so everyone gets a personalized eMail starting with Hi Elio Fans. The list they get from a Symphony might start with Hi Symphony fans and then you get the same letter.

I personally don't think it has anything to do with Elio per se. Just a personalized general mailout which probably has something to do with getting hits on their website.

I'm not sure that we are really the intended audience for this new campaign. I don't really see it as trying to get us to do more in terms of actually buying stock, it's a referral program. But it does have to be done in accord with a new public stock offering, because the old one is closed out.

I'm very disappointed with Start Engine as a company. After buying my shares of Elio I had no need to hear from them again and was annoyed by the various emails they sent. That led me to unsubscribe from them some time ago and yet with this next big thing I find them spamming me all over again.

It will be interesting to see what exactly happens on 9/27. Will this actually be about trying to help Elio or is it just more opportunity for Start Engine to try to convince people to invest in other things.
