I honestly think that we're less than a generation away from cyber implants.

I agree. The technical expansion has been so rapid that the future cannot be anticipated. We will create a cyborg that the general population cannot comprehend. We can hope that it is applicable to physical repairs for our veterans and physical capabilities for our troops.

I haven't seen those options on the configurator yet. If they start offering upgrades to the driver of the Elio, I think Paul will have an even bigger winner on his hands. We could have a replacement drivers head instead of just a heads up display. The Automatic shift could be upgraded to the telekinetic shift. The Headlights could be upgraded to move with the drivers head. (Maybe that is not a good one.) The engine would be upgraded to provide back up power to the robotic limbs for the driver. Heck we could have the computer on the car merged with the cyber implant to constantly control the throttle and engine controls.

I like the sound of some of these new options for the Elio. I was thinking the thread was diverging, but I guess I just misunderstood. I see where it all ties in.

Go Elio, with the Flux capacitor and the mister fusion options.

You didn't hear? Mister Fusion had a bad run with the batteries on the latest version of the reactor. It seems that for some reason, they would just randomly explode. All of the new Mister Fusions were recalled and many of the previous owners have gone with a competitor, whose unit is powered by something called "unobtanium".

Rats, another year delay while PE switches to the new "unobtanium" source. Maybe the Metro conversion might still available.

I like the thread wander into the updates for the improvement of mankind through mechanical and synthetic biometric improvements. It would be great for our troops and the general population I think. The more mundane improvements and options for the Elio are on my mind here though. I am still a fan of the basic Elio and optimistically stand ready to get my notice that mine is ready for delivery. There are some great minds on this forum and forward thinking people. I think that is why they like the Elio, because it is a step forward in the evolution of transportation. Lets get it on the road.

Go Elio.

I don't know if I can go along with it's a step forward, it's more like a step backwards to simplicity. That's the complete opposite of the automotive market today. The car market has made the cars so complexed that the average owner can't work on them without a computer.
I said years ago, when I first opened the hood of a new car and saw the plastic covers over everything, that soon there will be a sticker right in the middle that said "Do Not Open, No Owner Serviceable Parts".
We are very close to that now.

The question is what do you do when a light comes on on the instrument panel in a new car that says "Check Engine" and you're 50 miles from the nearest service area?
1. Slow down and pray for the next 50 miles?
2. Pull over and call AAA?
3. Pull over, look under the hood and say "Yup, that's an engine".
4. Pull over, check your oil, water, tranny fluid and keep driving.
5. Some combination of the above.

Push the button on your "OnStar" they run a remote diagnostic, then tell you if you can "keep driving", or "get off the road as soon as it's safe, when you're in a safe spot, turn off the vehicle, help is on it's way."
All brought to you by the Intel Cloud!

You need a car like that for a lot of the population, who have little understanding of mechanical things, but feel comfortable with an electronic device. Probably why most people want an electronic car. A lot of people on this forum have had their hands dirty before and are somewhat more skeptical of electronic devices but know we have to use them anyway. Some here are comfortable with both the electronics and the mechanical. We still need both. I still like the bare naked mechanical things like old Motorcycles and a simple Elio. I also like my heated seats and a sofisticated entertainment center in my other car. We need all of them, the Tesla's, Corollas, the Ferrari s, the Ford pickup, the Chevy whatever, Porsche and the Hyundai. We should still be able to pick what makes us comfortable and happy. Most cars don't have any user serviceable parts on them, and I am OK with that. We still need the basic machine that we don't have to take in to a tech center to get repaired if we don't want to.
