I Took Delivery Of My New Elio Today !

I PUT MY MONEY DOWN FOR AN ELIO TO USE FOR A COMMUTER CAR .
I WAS LAID OFF AND HAVE WAITED FOR MY NEW ELIO FOR 3 YEARS NOW .

I HAVE A NEW JOB WITH A 30 MILE COMMUTE NOW SO ANYTIME NOW PAUL , ANY TIME .

IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT THE NEXT BEST THING .
A 2005 GEN 1 HONDA INSIGHT .

IT HAS TOO MANY WHEELS BUT ALSO HAS SOME SIMILARITIES TO THE ELIO .
FRONT WHEEL DRIVE 1000cc 3 cyl ENGINE , 2 SEATS , LIGHT WEIGHT AND GREAT AERODYNAMICS TO NAME A FEW .

WHY COULDN'T ELIO HAVE SOURCED THIS MOTOR FROM HONDA & SAVED $100,000,000 ?
WE COULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING BY NOW .

THE CHASSIS & BODY ON THE INSIGHT ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND 70+mpg IS COMMONLY
ACHIEVED WITH SO WE ARE NOT TOO FAR OFF THE MARK .

MINE HAS A FEW BLEMISHES BUT WORKS FLAWLESSLY .
AT $2300 , IT SHOULD PAY FOR ITSELF IN FUEL SAVINGS IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS .

Yours looks great.
I picked up a near flawless gen 1 Honda Insight one year ago for similar reasons.
I have been able to use the Insight for 10 months of the year and the gas guzzling SUV for the other 2 months due to snow.
As Willie mentioned, InsightCentral is very helpful and full of very knowledgeable members.
No regrets.

Good going David, looks pretty good, as the others have asked how many miles are on the clock?
I was wondering how much longer you have on the battery before it needs replacement.
That seems to be the #1 reason people trade those in.

THE CAR HAS 150k ON IT .
I DON'T KNOW HOW OLD THE IMA BATTERY IS BUT IT SEEMS TO BE CHARGING OK . .

IT IS FAIRLY EASY TO BYPASS THE IMA BATTERY & REMOVE IT .
THE HIGHWAY MILEAGE WILL NOT SUFFER TOO BADLY BUT THE CITY MPGs WILL TANK .

THEY CAN ALSO BE REFURBISHED FOR A REASONABLE COST
WHERE THEY PUT NEW OFF BRAND CELLS IN THEM .
BATTERY TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED IN THE LAST DECADE .

BY THE WAY , I AM NO FAN OF THE VIDEO GAME DASHBOARD .
MIGHT AS WELL BE A LORD ELGIN BUT IT IS FUN TO WATCH THE
CHARGE / ASSIST GRAPHS AND BATTERY INDICATOR OPPOSITE THE FUEL GAUGE .

Wow, 150K is pretty good on those, from what I heard.
But it sounds like a sweet ride, way to go!!
And it's a 50/50 so we haven't lost you to the dark side (arrgghhh total battery cars, yuk!)

Where's you find it through? Local paper, car trader, neighbor???

I hear you on the charge/assist graph, I rented a Pries at an airport, in the middle of winter over in Spokane, and the gas motor ran full time (heater, lights, radio, etc.) but it still only used 2 gal of gas over 3 days, not to shabby, but it was really gutless the whole time I was driving it. But watching that little graph dash was entertaining.

Another one for the new thread "Look what I got to replace my Elio..."
We are looking at a Spark now, while cautiously eyeing a Sondors. The old Versa has 113k on it now, and the Elio was supposed to replace it, but that seems highly unlikely at this point.

I got a PriusC. My son-in-law got a Yaris. A couple Elio's would have been much better, but the combination of life and time requires motion.... If Elio should make a 'move' someday, I'm still getting mine.
